Original post: I kept a pretty close watch on the number of members here each day for about two months. The total numbers shown below represent the membership at the end of each day. The numbers in parentheses are the new members during that 24-hour period. Of course, this does not account for fluctuations in membership due to "spammer" accounts. But for what it's worth, here it is.

Of course that means a new auction.

Is anyone even reading this thread? I'm thinking it certainly won't last forever; I intend to give it up when we have a day or two without adding a new member... but is anyone even reading it at this point? I find this kind of stuff interesting, but also potentially annoying to a lot of our members. So... anyway...

The numbers get a little weird once in a while... like maybe there are spammers who are removed or something. But anyway, it looks like we've averaged 4-5 new members per day for the last couple weeks. Could it be that we're not so crazy after all? :)

Well, it seems we have had a couple days without new members signing up. Still, overall, there is a steady flow of new members coming on board. No new members on October 26th or 31st, but it looks like there were new guys in the days between. Looks like there were also some spammer accounts which have been deleted, which affects the tally. Glad to see the administration keeping on top of that.

I was responsible for a lot of those spammers being taken off the member count. The night I went through the entire membership list I deleted about 50 of them. There are still a few accounts that I suspect are spammers.. but I am waiting for their first post to be sure.

If my system is correct, we have actually had 600 signups at this point? Which would mean that there have been OVER 100 spam accounts deleted, since the actual member count lies just under 500.

Yes, that sounds about right. I went through the entire membership list and deleted a lot of spam accounts. Now I check out all new members in the morning and evening and delete any new spammers. That copper rod Nate sold me is getting a lot of notches.

An increasing membership is a sign of a successful organization. Congratz Admins. Your diligent, thoughtful, and caring managment of this site is the reason. If this were a business and it was public, I'd buy stock in you! And that is just about the best offer I can give an organization besides joining and/or facilitating it.

It's a Jungle out there and you provide the machetes.

The move from the old site has not hurt membership growth, but of course we really made it tough not to move. Kind of like how the Canadians removed the paper dollar and two dollar bills to make way for the loonie and toonies.

From which we (USA) should take a lesson: People won't generally change unless "staying the same" will really hurt. People won't accept the new unless the old is gone, or useless, or SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult.

Number of users: 605 Users per day: 1.97

Poking around I saw this info. Thought I would share it. We've axed a lot of spammers and a I've personally deleted several dozen accounts that consist of signing up and never returning (after months of no activity).
