THE 1909 CLUB

The year 1909 in coins is fascinating to me. At the start of the year, the mint was producing Indian cents. Soon after, they switched to the Lincoln cent, and both mints used the wheat design with the VDB initials on the reverse. Within a few weeks, they removed the initials, creating a third type for the year. Through this year, there were two mints producing coins: San Fransisco and Philadelphia. That makes for a grand total of 6 cents in one year!

So I am founding THE 1909 CLUB. If you want to join THE 1909 CLUB, all you have to do is find one of those six cents in your sorting, and post about it here. It's a rather exclusive club, wouldn't you say? But it's a club that, with a little diligence, you could someday be a part of.

So... if you have found a 1909 cent in the years 2010-12, please post information about it below. Pictures are not necessary, but would be very much appreciated (and maybe even envied). On a side note, if you would like to be an ancillary member of THE 1909 CLUB, you may provide information about finding another United States coin from 1909 - any denomination is fine. And you know what else? If you find a WORLD COIN from 1909 in your searches, go ahead and post that too. We'll call that the international division.

Cool! Good to get this new thread started off with some results! Which one did you find?
EDIT: I read it on the pre-40 Lincoln thread. Problem solved.

Found a 1909 two days ago in surprisingly good shape, not the usual worn condition for coins from this era. Probably about a VF20 to 35. Definitely went in the album immediately. 8-)

I found an '09 in the strangest place. A lot of my coworkers save their pennies in cups or jars on their desk. I asked the woman next to me about 5 months ago if I could go through her pennies. I'd give her cash for whatever I took out. I joked about finding an '09 to her. She couldn't have cared less.

About 90% through her Slurpee cup, I found a chewed up '09. I didn't tell her about it, but I beamed the rest of the day. I gave her $4 for the $3 and change in copper I pulled out of her cup.

OOPSIE! Sorry all! It was a very worn 1909 Lincoln. My bad...apologies to all. I should know better since I found a 1909 indian head at the beginning of the year. I guess I got Christmas on the brain!
