$44 face (10 bwr and 12 CWR)
12 pre 1960
7 Canadian - all junk

NOTE: the very last roll turned out to be the best as it produced a WAR, a 1948 and a 1961 in showroom condition. I rarely mention post 1960 nickels - they have to be MS quality.

About a month ago, I did a BOX STUDY, meaning that I buy a full box of nickels and tabulate expanded details. This was a LOOMIS box from a bank less than two miles from my house. Keep in mind that there are exactly 2000 coins in the box. Out of 2000,

Pre 1980 - 240 (exactly 6 rolls worth)
Pre 1970 - 119
Pre 1960 - 33
Pre 1950 - 19
Pre 1940 - 3

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the p 1960
1954-59. 14
1950-53. ZERO
1940-49. 16 inc. one WAR
1939 2
1938. 1

Final comment: out of 2000 nickels, only 8 "S" mints

Went to a local bank three days in a row - Tuesday, yesterday and today, purchasing 20 rolls of nickels each day. First 20 rolls were CWR, the rest were bwr. Therefore, a $120 sort:

32 pre 1960 including a 1905 Liberty!!!!!
11 CAD inc three .999 nickels. Most of the Canadian were in the CWR's.

I basically continue to average roughly one pre 1960 for every two rolls.

Only 39 pre 1960. This includes one war nickel.
Ten Canadian nickels , but only one .999

late 1950's
HOWEVER: a WAR nickel and a nice 1936D buff.

Went on a nickels binge during the week. Opened rolls Monday through Friday in bits and pieces as time permitted. $210 face sorted. Roughly 75 percent of the rolls were CWR.

47 pre 1960 including a no-date BUFF. Best coin was a 42 D in VG-F condition (probably F)

Notes: 20 Canadian nickels inc four .999
Inc in the 47 above were SIX from 1939. Unfortunately no mint marks. 39 d and s are extremely difficult to find in the wild.

Also, of the 47 pre 1960, 8 were in POOR condition and will be used as pocket change.

Bought a Loomis box in late October. It sat for a week, then got sorted with somewhat disappointing results. Yes, there was a decent amount of pre 1960, but nothing good!
32 pre 1960; 16 of them from the fifties
4 Canadian - NO keepers
1 2009 D which was a surprise, especially since I make little to no effort to drain 'em

I do not know how much I sorted because I didn't keep track of that. Also, you can't use this thread to tally my actual totals because I did not post results every time I sorted. If I had to guess, I probably sorted about $4000 dollars which would be 2000 rolls. That would be around 80 percent of what cwgii sorted.

$100 face sorted late last week and early this week. Most of the 50 rolls were CWR

24 pre 1960 including two war nickels.

Notes: Very first roll - War nickel ! Next roll - another war nickel! But none the last 48 rolls. In fact, the last ten rolls were total skunk (all the same wrapper type, same bank). I strongly suspect that these were unmarked competitor rolls. I always mark mine except when I use dump machines!
