Hello Fellow Copper Penny Handsorters:

In September 2011, please post your finds right here.

For those of us who handsort our COPPER, this is the place to report your COPPER treasure. I'll be working up some statistics as the reports flow.

Please report the face value of the pennies searched and the total number of US COPPERs found. Also, list the total number of Wheats, COPPER Canadians, and any wonderful Indian Heads you find. If you find foreign coins in your search for COPPERs, list them too. List the percentage of COPPERs found: the percentage I use is the number of coppers (non-Wheats, non-Canadians) found in the face value of pennies searched. Personally, I breakdown my US COPPERs into 4 categories: Wheats, Clean COPPERS (1959-1981), Ugly Abes (1959-1981), and 1982s (the Ugly 1982s I send them back into the wild); I roll mine up separately and put them into separate $25 boxes for storage.

I'll try to post some graphs of our COPPER finds as 2011 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2011 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Indian Heads, Wheats, and COPPER pennies are found . I'll try to keep track of all of these.

Sort of a bonus to my cent pickup... I was telling the ladies at the bank that I looked for wheat cents, and Canadian cents, and whatever else I could find that was out of the ordinary...
One of them said, "Canadian? Hey Ruby, where's all that stuff?"
HAha...
They gave me a handful of coins... every time they get anything out of the ordinary, apparently it goes in a "junk" drawer. My freebies today:
19 Canadian cents, including a 1945, and 15 of which were copper.
1 Canadian dime (1978).
1 Great Britain sixpence (1967)
and 1 Venezuelan bolivar (1990).
The best part is... now I might be their "junk coin guy." I like that.

An amazing old time accumulation. It appears that this lot was accumulated sometime in the late '80s as there was virtually nothing beyond 1990. Many of the Uglies were a result of light corrosion spotting due to long term storage. There were many bright and shinys from 1974 and 1975, but earlier COPPERs showed some circulation.
