$25 Brinks Box (December #9)
756 Non Wheat and Non Canadian Copper (30.2%)
20 Wheat - with 1929, 1929, and 1939.
7 Canadian copper - from 1962 to 1996.

It is with a sad keyboard that I type that this is my final hand-sorted box since I received my Ryedale AxCent this week. I wont be going any faster since I plan to stop after each roll and check for wheats and keep a copper count, but that really isn't "hand-sorting." Basically I am just using the machine to ease the strain on my eyes.

WOW!!! Amazing! Wish my body would hold out so I could sort more coins.

In about 2 1/2 years of sorting I have found less than 1,000 wheats total. I just looked at my "S" mintmark jar and total I have 1 3/4 inches worth of pennies in a quart canning jar. Not very many. I think I read you had found a total of about 4 boxes of "S" mintmarks. That is great!!!

Continued success!!!

Yes I do, It really slows you down hand sorting but I like the thrill of finding them. Now I have a 1998 and 2000 I need a 1999 and a close 1992. I read somewhere that the 1996 has a WAM. That's all I check for is thw WAM's is there anything else I should check for???

On the Close AM it can also be on the 1992D. It isn't quite as valuable, but I'd take finding one any day. According to the book I have: Strike It Rich With Pocket Change, 2nd Edition, there was a 1996 Wide AM found just before printing of that edition, but they had not personally seen it. I have seen some other years that people thought were Wide AMs but they turned out to be a polished die error as the FG wasn't in the proper position for it to have been an error.

According to the above mentioned book:
"There were early reports of a 1997 Wide AM cent discovered back in 2001 but to date neither the authors or any other hobby representatives have been able to verify. All cents from 1993 - 2008 from both mints should be checked for this variety."

I have found a 1999 Wide AM that I had graded. And, at the summer FUN Show in Orlando I was able to hold a graded 1992 or 1992D (can't remember which one now) that a gentleman had found searching rolls and had it graded. That was a huge thrill for me to be able to see that it truly is possible and to be able to talk with him in person about this hobby. It just takes looking at the coins. They are out there, just waiting to be found.

And, of course, there are many other types of errors to search for in the cent. Hope this information helps you.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:

Edited to add the Term: Wide AM

$25 Brinks Box

723 US Memorial Copper
27 US Wheats (1936D, 40's & 50's)
62 Canadian pre-1997 Copper

This was a fun box to handsort as it had four wheats showing on the ends of rolls. Also, I seem to be finding so many canadians that it is hurting my US copper percentages.
