A couple more CS machines I went to on Saturday…

One had a quarter

The other had $1.52 + .01 on the ground = $1.53
4 quarters
5 dimes
3 pennies

No good dates or foreign coins from either location.

These were in today's Coinstar find. One coin is a 1982 20 pence coin, which might be desirable.

2023 started off rather slowly but hit its stride by mid-month, resulting in the best January US total in 7 years. Everything was producing; wheats, silver, tokens, foreign, including two countries that didn't show last year. Even my apartment parking lot finds were above average, making me good for my penny-a-day average thru February. It's an above-average start to a year hopefully full of interesting goodies.

January totals

Question...Why is February turning out to be such a great Coinstar hunting month? Despite having only 28 days (okay, 29 days in 2020 and 2016) it continues to produce great results, including this year. My US total was the 8th highest ever, and three of my top ten months have been February, more than any other month. Foreigns were off the chart too, featuring eight new countries, we now sit at 16 for the year. Another cool fact is that nine of 2023's countries were no-shows last year. If this pace keeps up, there's a great chance to pass 2020's all time record of 38 countries. And check out my apartment complex parking lot total, which doesn't include a $5 bill I found after a windy week. Here's hoping March comes in like a lion!

February totals (2023 totals)

1¢ - .83 (1.67)
5¢ - .40 (1.35)
10¢ - 1.60 (4.30)
25¢ - 7.50 (11.50)
Total - 10.33 (18.82)

Found a quarter in a CS machine the other day.

Then I reached into the change return and found a 1952-S dime. I’ll take all the silver I can get!

So what do you guys do with these Canadian quarters (and other coins) that you acquire? Just throw them in a jar?

I saw a site online that will exchange your Canadian currency, but you have to pay shipping, so that kind of defeats the purpose for a handful of coins.

My wife has her acct at a credit union and I've asked like 3x if she can ask about exchanging foreign currency, but nothing has happened on that front. I use a local bank that I basically do through the ATM, so I'm kind of at a loss on opps to exchange coins there.

I roll mine up and send them to JadeDragon. He offered 90% face exchange for Canadian coins, which after shipping was approx $60 US for C$100. Pretty good for found money. I believe he takes other foreign too.

March's US total was more down to earth, leveling out the yearly tally to just about $8/month. Foreigns once again were strong as I near 20 nations. A technique I don't often employ is doing a quick hand sweep under the front of the machine. Tried it during one route and found something every time, including a sweet silver quarter. My apartment complex parking lot is off to a flying first quarter, accounting for nearly 10% of the overall US total.

March totals (2023 totals)

1¢ - .82 (2.49)
5¢ - .25 (1.60)
10¢ - 1.40 (5.70)
25¢ - 2.25 (13.75)
Total - 4.72 (23.54)

Included in March's total - 1945 (x2), 1954-S wheaties; 1964 quarter

Apartment complex parking lot: 1.97 (averaging 2¢ a day!)

Australia <---18th country for 2023!
5 cents (2017)

Austria
2 euro cents (2004)

Bahamas
1 cent (2015)

Canada
5 cents (2007)
10 cents (2007)
25 cents (1974, 2003-P uncrowned)

Germany
2 pfennig (1965-F, 1984-F, 1988-G, 1991-G)
2 euro cents (2017-F)
5 euro cents (2012-A, 2015-F)

Italy <---17th country for 2023!
2 euro cents (2005)

Mexico
1 peso (2010)

Switzerland <---19th country for 2023!
½ franc (1968)

Tokens
Elaut
Station Casino cigarette token
