$1200 on the side of a mountain.

It was in a wallet...the fella lost it skiing earlier in the year.....we found it mountain biking on the same slopes. He sure was glad to get it back but the initial lost cut he skiing vacation rather short.

Before you ask yes we thought about keeping the cash but it was just a thought and a quick one at that.

And yes always check the trash cans next to the coin counters at the banks. Sometimes I even get a Franklin pickup...once it was $12 in US quarters!

The floor in a casino. People are constantly pulling things in and out of their pockets. I have found money twice, $20 both times. I have also dropped money on the casino floor myself....a few hundred dollars which put a bit of a damper on that trip.

ATM machines are a good spot. Many people grab the cash and throw the receipt on the ground or in the trash next to the machine. If somebody is not paying attention they may grab the receipt and throw the cash away. I've found money three times that way.

At the auto auction, I parked in front of what I thought was an unused gate. They must have moved my car with one of their forklifts. when I found it over a block away, there was $800 mostly 20's and a few 10's, sitting in the road next to it.
I called the auction told them I found "some" cash, and if someone could identify the amount and denominations, I'd be glad to return it. I never heard back from them.

Dang, you win  Nice score  Now I feel like a chump with my 3 cents!

It's possible that some day my 3 cents might be worth more than the $800 in paper though, haha.

Storage lockers. Found cash. $80 is the highest so far. Lots and lots of change.

Have found small coin collections. Some 90% and wheats mostly. Found 2 ASE's once.

In 4 months we have filled a 5 gallon plastic water jug 1/4 full.

I was standing on the curb at the public library waiting to walk to my car, and a car full of thugs stopped right next to me, to force me to walk around them. When I walked behind their car, I looked down and saw a folded FRN in the gutter, turned out to be a $20. I didn't bother to thank them.

in the mid 80's I had closed out a safety deposit box, 6 months after the closure I received in the mail 3 ten dollar bills crisp UNC, I think they were 1928's from the Bank of Chicago. They weren't in my box when I emptied it. Too late to return the bank had failed and was closed. I still have them.

Correction....it was a $20 National Currency Note series of 1929 from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Not the 3 $10, those came from some where's else.

Yes. My business partner and I buy storage lockers. That is our job, that is how we make money.

Between selling at auctions, the flea market and ebay we make a decent living.

Found a stash of coins in the trunk of a car I bought once. Not a lot but mostly 90%.

Was a pleasant surprise.

Did the popularity of Storage Wars have any impact on your business?

Wife was driving yesterday, i was passenger. Pulled into a CVS and I opened my door and at my feet was a $1 frn. It was folded into some weird origami shape. But unfoldable and spendable!

as I dumpster dive for a living, recycling. I find money [coins[ almost daily. dozens of dollars, a few fives and one 20.

then there was the time at the vfw when I found a 'bank-can' used for donations for the buddy poppies. there was 24$ and change . which I returned to the post. making sure the commander knew that someone had thrown away the clubs money.

and of course , metal detecting for years lead to a lot of strange finds.

too many to even type about lol

I have found money here as well. I would love to know where the larger municipalities dump their snow.

Wife went out for a walk this past monday. She has good 'coin eyes' because she has been trained by the best (me). As she was crossing a low traffic side street, she caught a glint of copper. She bent down to pick up a well worn penny. Upon reaching for it, saw another one a few inches away....then another...before she was forced off the road by an unusual amount of traffic she had found 4 zincolns and a quarter! She then walked on. This is not the end of the story.......

Her coin mind is just like mine. She told me that she wondered if there was more. So next day she heads out on her usual walk again. She gets to same place, no traffic, and walks into road. Scanning around, she ends up finding 15 more pennies and a nickel! In the middle of the road! How does this happen?

Anyhow, keep stacking....and get your mate to help you!

Great idea on checking the trash cans- never thought about that before!

Please see this post from last October from me:

Back to present day, January 25, 2017
So, I have started walking with my wife every other day now. And would you believe that every time we hit this same spot, theres at least a penny. Sometimes I find 3 or 4. She found a nickel the other day. So today we get to the same point in the road and we stop and nose around. Wife says "If anyone asks, I lost an earring and we are looking for it." Lo and behold, we found 2 quarters, a dime and 4 zincolns! Its like a magic spot for coins.

Strange. Not quite enough to retire.

Keep stacking.

Just like snow has been mentioned a few times, I imagine the beach would be a good place too. Anyone with a metal detector can probably attest to that.

On floors and in cups of cars at the pick a part scrap yard. Rental house cleanup. Abandoned storage locker clean out once yielded a collection of coins and assorted international folding currency.

Asking nicely at banks for old money has yielded silver and interesting bills.

Every spring I find change where the snowpiles were in parking lots. I'll find maybe a bucks worth or two each year. Also found a $10 bill stuck in a silt fence down wind from a bank drive thru about 4 years ago.
