Question if I may - why would you scrap copper rather than keeping it for the stash?

Pipes wire and tubing take up a lot of room.

I plow my scrap money right back into coins.

Not only that, most of the time scrap is free money.

Ah. Perfectly sensible then. :)

Might have to investigate this scrapping lark and see if they pay decent rates over here... I have tons of junk!

New to the forum. south central PA.
Today I took in:
10 lbs #2 copper at $2.90 per (mostly copper windings from small wallwart power transformers I am dissecting while I sit on break at work).
560 lbs light steel at $.09 per (2 wash machines off of freecycle & some tire rims that I was tired of walking around)
39 lbs of insulated wire at $.90 per
Total for the day was $115.00

About the insulated wire. Over half of that was Christmas lights. This yard had been accepting as is with the light bulbs still in & paid 1/2 rate.
Last week I took in a tub & they said sorry no more. They had 3 bales with glass in & they can't find a buyer.
Told me that if I pull out the bulbs they will call it full price insulated wire.
so I watched a couple shows on Hulu & cleaned em off.
I'm going to keep the Christmas wire separate from the other insulated wire because I don't trust that they'll keep paying out for it. It's mostly insulation & sockets by weight.
