well that was a fun few days of scrapping! Had to move out all my junk as my daughter was having a marching band party at our house last night! Prices are down but still some extra Christmas cash $$ and the $.10 bonus helped with the insulated wire price. Only metal left is some aluminum cans... now to start the piles of stuff again!

Went there with some plastic when Norma's was closed when she should have been open. Got $.40 for #1 plastic and they told me about the cans $1.10 but if crushed they can't be flattened sideways, so crush from top down or whole to get the $1.10 a pound. I am sure they want the UPC code on the side of the can crushed. I took my sideways / flattened cans to Can it for $.95 lb with some #2 colored plastic for $.04 lb

When I was at the yard I noticed they had a propane tank, I asked and they take them as is, no need to take off valve or have a hole in them like other yards want. I would always pick up the tanks if full and use them up, now I can get rid of the old ones that the propane place will not fill up as they are too old and don't have the new safety overfill device in them.

Flame Propane in Prescott will recertify them for a few bucks. They are worth much more that way. Is there a Flame in Tuscon?

You can exchange your tanks without the OPD thing at one of those exchange racks. Again it's worth more that way.

NO yards around here will except or buy any kind of fuel tank no matter how pulverized it is

Thanks, did not know that the exchange places would take the old, no OPD ones. I have and do exchange the ones that are out of date and have the OPD.

also just found out that stamped on the propane tank is the tank weight (empty) marked TW then a number. SO I will exchange the old ones and sell the empty ones at a yard sale, way better than $1.00 at the scrap yard!

Be careful where you exchange them. Some places will accept an older tank with no OPD as an exchange, but charge you LOTS more for the new tank with the OPD.

New Years resolution... I am going to buy Alcoa (AA) stock with any scrap yard money I get this year... Already made my first purchase $20 dollars worth from soda / beer cans, a used Wok, and some shred steel that I gathered from the neighbors trash.
