Newbie Buff Nickel Question.....

Postby Pachucko » Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:14 am

What is meant when a seller says the dates on Buffalo Nickels have been enhanced, or something similar? And if they don't say, how can you tell?

Thanks in advance......Pachucko

it's when they have used acid, vinegar or some other method to bring out details on a heavily worn nickel. Usually the coin will have a different color and texture around the date unless they treated the whole coin then it will have a dull surface compared to an original coin. Some collectors won't buy them and others will only buy them at a steep discount compared to normal coins. I have a few in my collection because they are a cheap way to fill holes without buying a "COPY" or fake.
