Franklin found a 1951-s thin planchet cent. Franklin told me it sounded like a zinc cent. And it does.



I first asked Mike Diamond a error expert and --

It looks genuine. If its weight is below normal, then it's most likely a cent struck on a planchet punched out of cent stock that was rolled too thin.

It also is missing the "O" in the word one. Also what is the worth.

The "O" may be missing due to the slightly weak strike. Or it could be due to an accumulation of compacted dirt filling the corresponding recess of the die. Value would depend on weight. I suspect the reduction in weight is modest and therefore the value would be around $5.

Then $5 - $10 would be an approximate retail price.

The mint used to make coins for several different countries (not sure if they still do). It could be stock rolled for some type of foreign coin that got mixed in with the cent stock. I remember years back there were some 1970 quarters that got punched out of dime stock--you still see them for sale occasionally. Awesome find!

The price guide value is hilarious for that one.

I don't know what the market is for these, but they aren't ery common and this is an MS version so I would say at least $100, probably more due to the uncommon nature of these.

numismedia has $1.44 for that date/mint/grade cent.
