Ebay, Artificial Incapability

Postby Morsecode » Sun Jan 14, 2024 6:38 pm

While cruising the coin listings at ebay I came across an offering for a "rare" 1788 Connecticut 25 cent piece. It was, in fact, a 1999 Connecticut business strike Statehood quarter. Bidding starting at $10.00 + $4 shipping.

So I reported it under 'fraudulent practices'.

A few hours went by and I got this reply:

What happened:
We looked into your report and didn’t find the listing to be in violation of our policy. This determination was made using automation or artificial intelligence.

It takes a lot of user reporting through that system for eBay to do anything. But I reported it to a group with eBay contacts that can usually get counterfeit / mislisted coins pulled within a day.

 Thanks guys.

I'm not entirely convinced this seller isn't simply a dumbazz, or half dumbazz and half evil. But the coin does say '1999' on it...Hello?!

They're also offering a rare NY quarter, so maybe they're testing the waters to judge scam-ability.

Notice that the seller has ZERO feedback. This definitely screems half dumbazz and half evil. It is obvious that he (or she) is a scumbag/criminal/con artist, and not even a smart one. A smart criminal on ebay would start out by selling 10-15 real items and provide fast, honest secure shipping. That would build some positive feedback. Then, with that in place, maybe some Dumbo would actually pay the ten dollars for a 25 cent item. And finally, eBay is either too stupid OR too corrupt to remove the listing.
Buy rolls NOW while you still can!
