Nice find for 4 cents

Postby cooyon » Sat Dec 14, 2013 7:37 pm

Visited a new (for me) coin shop Friday in my ongoing search for Canadian cents and nickels. They only had a small amount, less than $2 FV, but I said I would take it all for .8xFV. Got home, started looking at my new stuff, and was shocked to see a 1948 nickel. This is the third-lowest mintage, 1.81 million, behind the 1925 and '26. I almost never get one of these, only my second one. The other one was in a partial set I bought at FV, so I have a total of nine cents tied up in the two 1948s. Now if it would only stop snowing.

Nice,

I only found two in 390,000 nickels searched.

Congrats.

I don't know how I missed this low mintage all this time, but thanks for the heads up. I re-sorted a small bag just now and pulled 10 of them. Here's the nicest one...

This is one of the "sleeper" coins that is below the radar...folks don't talk about it like the 1925/26, but the 1948 is not an easy find...good to see that some of you have them, maybe we can find some more.
