The Vending Machines in Canada

Spent the night in Ontario last week. It was late and I was thirsty and found the hotel vending machines. I had a pocketful of assorted coins from nickels to Toonies, but was reluctant to plug them into the machine for fear of it jamming up.

How in the world does the vending industry in Canada recognize the many different metal compositions of its coins? Perhaps it's one of life's mysteries for USA travelers.

What about my thirst, you say? Went back to my room and drank water. Dull, but still refreshing.
