Rather quick and simple question-

Is platinum or palladium counterfeited? And if so what types or quantities- you see gold and silver counterfeited on regular basis in all forms but how about platinum or palladium?

Thanks

Yes, it is counterfeited. Not nearly to the extent that gold and silver are (yet). Off the top of my head, I think I have a fake 1 oz Pamp Pt bar and a 1/2 oz Pt Eagle. I will check tomorrow.

I don't think I have ever heard or seen any fake palladium, but I am sure it exsists. LOTS of fake platinum out there though.

thank you for the pics- I avoid the carded stuff now because their faked so much and the platinum Eagle just looks downright fake. Curious- does the eagle even weigh out- platinum has to be harder to get right than a fake gold/silver piece

Palladium has me interested- the only real way to buy it is in carded ounces, Russian ballerinas and misc random stuff (like from bermuda). Palladium always has a dull sheen so its a bit harder to tell the fakes out. Not much on the web on fake palladium either. The weight must be tricky as well for these.

FYI- for those who have access to one, the Sigma Metalytics precious metals verifier can detect fake platinum, palladium and even rhodium. Also, it can detect items enclosed in plastic slabs and the like. I've seen a number of dealers over the last few years that have the devices.
