what is the most you ever put into a flat-rate box?

Postby bman » Thu Sep 30, 2010 7:08 pm

I was just reading the "the first 40 things that dissappear when HCBTT visits" thread and he said he shipped a box that weighed 69 pounds 15.8oz

I have shipped a couple of boxes with $115 face value in zinc cents, what is your best bang for the buck for shipping coins?

The limit is 70 lbs. You can get 70 lbs into a Medium flat rate box. That is the cheapest way to send pennies.

I've gotten packages that weighed on my bathroom scale at 70.5 :)

Hoard, were you trying to post as HZBTT there or why are you ordering zincolns?

Hey, a guy's gotta diversify. As a serious shipper I just wanted to see if he could actually stuff $115 in a medium flat rate box.

When I shipped out my 69 pound, 15.8 ounce box Saturday it included 2 silver halves in addition to the $100 in copper cents.

Physically, it would fit, but the post office wouldn't take it because the box and packing material would but it over the absolute maximum weight. $100 in Cu pennies fits just fine and the weight comes in just right with the box and packing material.

You know if the weight limit was 75 pounds I would somehow get 74 pounds, 15.8 ounces in there.

Back in the old days before we had flat rate boxes.. I once shipped an entire mint sewn bag of 1968-S pennies in one of those flat rate envelopes. That was really "pressing the envelope."
