I just ran an ad looking for pennies

Postby bman » Tue Jan 11, 2011 8:30 pm

There is a free classified website for my area called Southern Maryland Online.
I just ran this ad:
http://classifieds.somd.com/cgi-bin/classifieds.cgi?db=y_wanted&session_key=&search_and_display_db_button=on&results_format=long&db_id=18663&query=retrieval

What do you guys think, will I get any responses? a few, some, a bunch, or just hecklers?
The ad will run for 30 days and I sort of lowballed the price for silver just in case it drops in that 3o day period.

I will post anything that I get in this thread (if I get anything that is)

I have one running too. I had a few responses. One of the guys had a decent price on 40% he would sell but not good enough to jump on it. Had a few other people inquire on selling me pennies (one even tried to sell me copper ) but all were too high to make deals. Had a guy with a 10 oz bar of Ag and 10 gram bar of Au and we agreed on a price through text but he never called me back. Still have it running and given enough time, Im sure it will turn out. Let us know how it goes.

Looks pretty fair to me, I have been getting a few nibbles around 18X face on the silver. I have yet to get someone to sell me bulk pennies yet :(

Why don't you do a little footwork and find out what local dealers are paying, and then change your ad to read highest prices for silver paid locally. If you leave it at 18X face some other Craigslister will see it and start offering 18.1X face. You might also offer to "appraise" coin collections for free. ImageImage

I like it! I think I might do the same. Good ad!

I ran an ad on craigslist a while back and never did score any pennies. . . but a generous local did email me and recommend I check out a site called realcent.org I may be interested in, never hurts to post.
Soooo... Is it just me or is a chart of US debt looking dangerously parabolic?

Have you had any luck yet...? I see you've got over 140 hits so far. I like your ad. I think you should include all coins so you don't exclude anyone. I've been thinking about something similar to do. Best of luck...and keep us posted. Very interested on your ad.

no responses yet. :x

I ran an ad in the collectibles section before stating that I buy coins and I did get some responses that way. I may run another one there and see what happens this time.

TJCF, are you 139 of the hits, jk

I like the ad. I got a call on mine yesterday but no meetup yet. I think when you are paying 18x silver, its hard for anyone to pay higher than that

Good Luck and please keep us posted on how it works out for you. Free ads can't hurt. I liked the suggestion about stating you pay the highest without putting the actual Xface value. Unless keeping up with the prices everyone else is paying would be too much of a bother, that seems like a good way to go to me.

In my experience with these they produce about one decent deal a week after diligently reporting after all the other jerks flag your post to get rid of competition and then reposting the ad after it gets buried under. It can be great though sometimes.

No, not for face value...I will have to see the coins and make an offer on them but I'm still glad just to get the chance.

Scotty cut that out...I don't need any more temptations, I've gotta keep some cash on hand for deals that may come up from my ad. :P
