My first Proof

Postby johnbrickner » Sat Mar 29, 2014 7:14 pm

Well, this isn't a real biggie but it my first. I have been watching members finding proofs in their searches and when I was looking hard for it, I never found it. Tonight the Ryedale jammed at the sorter and after I turned it off and started pulling the jam out, I said to myself "wow that one looks like the shiniest penny I've ever seen" (while sorting). I pull it out and it's a 1988-S in such good condition it could not have been in circulation long. Guessing some kid kyped it from the old man's proof set and bought candy with it. Best jam up of the Ryedale I've ever had. :) See if my kids can get a picture up for you all.

Or dump a few proof sets in a CoinStar machine and cash out despite the fee. Who knows what kids would buy if they did that. Not the same as the old days when you could put a penny in a small machine, turn the handle an out comes a gumball.

It's easier to find proofs then something of value.
(A Zink slug is still a Zink slug.)

This may be a sign that the Fed and it's Mint are slowly dissolving, much like a post '82 Zn & Cu plated slug.

Just because it has an "S" mint mark, I don't think the value is enhanced post '82.

I'd rather have a Cu '74.
