Since the goal here is to accumulate Canadian, one penny doesn't cut it, so overall a pretty crappy week:

Sorting take: 23 cents / 23% copper

Penny Arcade take: $.01 Canadian, China 7 yuans, 5 Euro Cents, Mexico 50 Centavos, GB 5 Pence, Equador 25 Centavos, Brazil 1 Real, 2 religious medals (angels on both sides)

At least they are good for 10 years.

Penny Arcade take: $1.91 Canadian, 1 GB Penny, 7 Euro Cents, 150 Pesos Columbia, 11 Cents US - includes a dime that is going to need some work on the vice to ever be straight again.

Strange week ... crappy for Canadian and copper cent percentages, but surprising finds:

Sorting take: 15 cents / 15%, But found a 53D Nickel, which we didn't have in our album yet, and also a 1940 nickel, which we already had so released it back to the wild.

Penny Arcade take: $.05 Canadian (bleck!), 1 Euro Cent, 31 Cents US, and a 1909 Italy 20 Centimes in pretty nice shape! Will post a photo when I get a chance.

Pretty good copper percentage, but crappy for Canadian and the overall Penny Arcade take:

Penny Arcade take: $.26 Canadian, 11 Cents US.

Back in business on Canadian this week, and wheats:

Sorting take: 26 cents / 26% (includes 1941, 1942D, and 1926... first wheats in a while, and first pre-1940 cent in a looong time), 54 Nickel, released it back to the wild.

Penny Arcade take: $1.50 Canadian (includes loonie), 2 Euro Cents, 4 Cents US.

Forgot to post last week (it wasn't much of a week anyway), so this is a double week. Last week results:

Sorting take: 24 cents / 24% (includes 1947)

Penny Arcade take: $.25 Canadian ... that's it!
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This week sorting stunk (one of the two rolls was customer wrapped and filled with shiny pennies that must have been run through a rock tumbler ... the zincs were shiny, where they weren't pitted down to the zinc core):

Sorting take: 13 cents / 13% (worst penny take in a long time)

Penny Arcade take: $.50 Canadian, 7 Euro Cents, Mexicon 2 Pesos, Kenya 2 Shilling (Ebola alert!), 2 GB Pennies, South Africa 5 Cents

Great sorting week! Had to go the Penny Arcade last night since I will be out of town this weekend. I've always felt weekends were better times to skim the magnet because there are more people putting coins in the machines ... certainly this trip supports that theory:

Sorting take:
38 cents / 38%, includes 50S (rarely come across 'S' mint cents), South Africa 20 cents - maybe my most unusual sorting find

Penny Arcade take: $.05 Canadian. The machine did credit me for 2 quarters that I didn't put in the machine, so my copper take was free this week!

Can you explain to me what the magnet is & how you access it? Do you have to ask an attendant/teller to help with it?

Sorry, haven't logged on in a while. In the Penny Arcades at TD Bank you dump the coins into a rectangular metal tray. If you lift up this tray there's chute on the left where the coins drop out. Just inside the topside of this chute is the magnet. I usually check the magnet after I've dumped my coins so that if anyone asked I could tell them that I expect there were foreign coins in my change. The attendants/tellers have never questioned what I was doing, but I wouldn't expect them to help out! A teller did once tell me that they collect all the foreign coins and periodically send them out somewhere to be converted. I figure I've got just as much right to them and the bank does, since basically the bank is taking what isn't theirs, either.

Forgot to update last week, so this week I've got two updates:

Week 1: Crappy Canadian week, but good variety from the magnet:

Sorting take: 20 cents / 20%, includes Canadian 1976. Nickels, 47, 47D, and 49. Didn't have a 47 yet, set the others free.

Penny Arcade take:
$.10 Canadian, Italy 100 Lira, Mexico 5 Pesos, 4 Euro Cents, GB 10 Pence and 4 pennies. US $.62

****************************

Week 2: By far a record Canadian week:

Sorting take: 29 cents / 29%, includes 58D, 50D. Nickels, 58D, 57, and 40 - all released back into the wild.

Penny Arcade take: $10.10 Canadian, 2 Euros - first time ever getting a Euro coin that was more than 5 Eurocents.
