Using pennies to repel flies

At one of the banks I stopped by after work today I had to wait while the teller was sorting through the pennies in her tray for the woman at her window. I thought that was a strange way to search for copper. But she wasn't looking for copper. The teller was pulling out the shiniest pennies for her. The woman wound up getting ten shiny zinc pennies in exchange for a dime. When I got to the window the teller told me that the woman wanted shiny new pennies to put out to keep flies away from her food. She had told the teller that the flies didn't like the shiny surface of the pennies. We both chuckled and I told the teller that I wanted some pennies too but only the old circulated ones and not the shiny new ones. She gathered up what she could and I ended up with $10 in customer wrapped rolls to sort.

I checked online this evening to see if there is any truth to the idea of repelling flies with pennies. Apparently some folks believe that bags of water with a few pennies inside provide a reflective surface that repels the flies. It's on the internet so it must be true. :P

If our current leaders face was put on the penny, would it attract flies? Just wondering.

Why not?

We have copper socks for increased circulation http://www.tommiecopper.com/product/men ... calf-socks

And copper for birth control (google it)

Copper is a miracle product

I saw a bag with water and pennies in it somewhere this week. I think mythbusters did it with just water. It didn't work
