The S is almost touching the first 9 --------- This is a reference coin ---------------------- The best closeup I can get

What caused this? Is it worth anything.

Yes Hoard, I know it's worth about 2 cents in copper.

Before about 1990 the mint marks were hand punched into the die, and the placement of the mint mark can be all over the place. I know there is some value if the mint mark is tilted sideways or if it is punched into the date.
