1928 error penny? .... SOLVED

1928 error penny? .... SOLVED

Anyone ever seen this? Size appears correct to a penny so i dont think its a dime, but i cant find much info. Sitting in my car outside the bank where i just hit a wheat penny jackpot and this was in there.

Looks like it was dipped in some kind of acid. There are certain kinds of acid that if pennies are dipped into their color changes.

Thanks for the quick reply, your info lead me to find what i think it is. I am pretty sure someone electroplated zinc on top of it. After further examination i see a little bit of copper peekung through in a couple spots. MYSTERY SOLVED. thanks

It's most likely a by-product of a high school chemistry class.

Brings back memories, like the time we had a gas leak and had to evacuate the lab.

Got $25 in CWR from a credit union inside a grocery store.

4 of the rolls contained 149 wheats, rest of the box had another 16 wheats. by far the most wheats i've found in a box. was a great surprise.

I posted a list of the pre 1940 stuff in the tracking thread there were a few from the teens, more than a few from the 20s, more than that in the 30s!

WOW! 4 rolls and 149 wheats?? My best box probably had something like 4o-50 wheats and you tripled that in 4 rolls. Very nice haul!
