Too much was going on over the holiday weekend last week to post, so this is a double week.

LAST WEEK:

Sorting take: 22 cents / 22% ..... Nickels: 57D and 56 released back into the wild

Penny Arcade take: $.90 Canadian, 9 Eurocents, Germany 1 Pfennig, Thailand 3 Bhat, Great Britain 1 Penny

Find of Week (blurry photos as usual! 1971 German 1 Pfennig ... nothing special for sure, but interesting since it's been demonitized for 15 years now)

THIS WEEK:

Sorting take: 21 cents / 21% includes 42, 46, 70S ..... Nickels: 49 released back into the wild

Penny Arcade take: $.00 Canadian, $1.20 Aruba, Bahamas 1 Cent, Cayman Islands 1 Cent

Find of Week (blurry photos as usual! Bahamas 1 Cent .. with starfish)

Wow, hard to believe, but this is the next-to-last week before vacation. We are so close to $150 Canadian that we cheated a little and sorted twice and stopped by two bank branches today. It paid off, but we will still need a decent week next week in order to make it.

Fun Fact: Total Canadian $149.02

Sorting take: 44 cents / 22% including 46, 51D and Canada 78 ..... Nickels: we found a 73 that was in better shape than the one we already had.

Penny Arcade take: $2.34 Canadian, 8 Eurocents, India 3 Rupees, Bermuda 25 cents, Cayman Islands 25 cents, Ecuador 25 Centavos, Honduras 50 Centavos, Aruba 1 Florin, Philippines 2.5 Pesos

Find of Week (not blurry photos for a change, 1992 Canada / Nova Scotia 25 Cents. We've found a lot of Candian quarters, but I don't think we've found other Nova Scotia .. and who doesn't like lighthouses?)

Hard to believe, but it's finally over. We stopped at two branches again trying to reach our $150 goal, and we made it. It was actually a really interesting week for world coins. We did a final count and it turns out we already had $150 last week (somewhere along the way we had mis-counted some of our change).

We've had a lot of fun doing this, hard to imagine stopping ... we'll see.

Fun Facts: Total Canadian $151.18

Pennies: 78
Nickels: 95
Dimes: 249
Quarters: 295
Dollars: 23
2 Dollars: 12

Average weekly take (over the past 63 weeks that we started keeping track): $1.39
Best week: October 15th of last year we got $10.20, which included 4-2Dollar coins and 1-1Dollar coin.

Sorting take: 55 cents / 27.5% including 44D, 34, and 68S (and a fake 2-tailed cent)..... Nickels: 48, 54D, 59, all returned to the wild.

Penny Arcade take: $1.10 Canadian, Bermuda 25 cents, Peru 2 Soles, Mexico 1 Peso, 10 Centavos, Italy .5 Lira (2 - 1978, 1976), Brazil (lots of coins amounting to 1.3 Real, Philippines 2.5 Pesos

We're back from vacation :(

Here's the update after cashing in. In spite of being TD Bank USA account holder, TD Bank Canada didn't recognize me as a customer so they charged a fee for me to cash my coins. I could have raised a stink over the $12 Canadian, but it was all free money anyway. So we walked away from the bank with $139 Canadian.

Now, in Vancouver there are is no shortage of restaurants where a family of 4 can rip through $139, and then some. It's trickier to do when we have to maintain my daughters dietary staples of Chicken (fried in nugget or tender form) and french fries. We ended up eating at a nice London style pub for about $83 and spending the rest on tshirts and other souveniers. I wanted to post a photo from the restaurant but for some reason I can't retrieve photos from the SIM card on my phone right now (um, scary, lots of nice shots on there). I'll post once I work that out.

Naturally, after spending cash on multiple purchases I came home with almost $3 Canadian ... the temptation to rebuild is there. I have no idea when we might go to Canada again, so I won't bore everyone with weekly updates, just update on cool finds every now and then!

I did something similar two years ago. I was such a novelty at the TD branch I stopped at that they waived the fee.

We've been continuing our weekly sorting, but it's been a pretty slow summer. Today was the first interesting take worth reporting:

Canadian $1
Malaysian 20 Sen (a first, I think)
Costa Rica 15 Colones
and
22 Steel Cents ... 21 Philly, 1 SF ... that's the first non-Philly steel cent we've found so far!

There will be a 2016 vacation, but it will be here in the US. Maybe I'll start a new thread for some undetermined Canada vacation in the future. At least for now maybe I'll do weekly updates again but only do pictures when we find something interesting. Posting pics is a pita :x
