I have just sorted $375.00 in stamped boxed pennies out of both Louisville and Indianapolis; I live in Southern Indiana. My percentage hovered around 27%, which is near what I got four years ago when I was sorting regularly. Are these representative? I'll be sorting some more in the coming weeks, and will be reporting on the tracking thread.

Interesting how regionally the percentages vary drastically.

My run yesterday was 13.4%.

Boxes here in SE Wisconsin consistently are 25-30%, very often coming in at 27-28%. This really hasn't changed much since 2009 which surprises me to some extent considering the copper hoarding that has taken place and dilution of the pool with zincs in the past 5-6 years.

Jeff

Edited to add - If I have noticed any real dropoff it would be in the # of wheats per box...looking at some notes I had from summer 2009, wheats were just short of 0.50% or 1 in 200 coins or 12.5/box. I would guess an average box now would hold 6-8 wheats.

More data here:

Check out some of the year end tracking threads to get a picture of how some percentages of individuals did over the past few years. As for me, I just started again after a two year lapse. I enjoy searching through the pennies, and I missed doing the Copper thing; but am seeing a smaller percentage (about 20% vs, 23% in 2013) now after two years here in Virginia. Others, on the West Coast seem to have lower percentages (about 16%) than those in the Northeast.
