Since a 1975 S mint coin would be a proof, I'd say this is a 1973 S error.

Why does it matter? Throw it in the copper pile and keep sorting. LOL

My guess would be a post mint damaged 1973S--NON PROOF penny. They minted both proof and non proof that year and I think it isn't a proof.

However, with that said, it is still very exciting to find ANY S mint mark coins as they are very rare in my neck of the woods.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:

I asked thinking that it might be a 75-S a proof in the wild.
Today Franklin found in a roll this--

A proof 1986-S and a plastic cent in the same roll! :D

I would say a 1973 s damaged because the top of a 5 would be straight and on this one the top is curved down on the right top and it's damaged because the nick in the rim lines up with the nick on the 3.
Just my 2 cents for what it's worth.
