Got my first box today!

Postby Sanford02 » Wed Sep 22, 2010 1:13 pm

Until now, I have been buying 5-10 dollars worth of pennies at a time and sorting them in about 2 days...

I got really stressed at work today, and it has been about a week since my last sort, so I went to the bank during lunch and bought a full box. I plan to relax tonight by sorting them all.

I also asked if I could get about a box per week, and the teller said no problem...they always have plenty of pennies on hand in the vault. This will be my new source bank.

I already have a good dump on the other side of town. I think my volume is going to start going up....

I love this hobby.

Relaxing and fun. My wife laughed at me when I took two shield pennies out of the penny cup at the C-store. She then handed over a wheatie that she had been saving for me.

1st its just one box, then its 2. Next thing you know you will buy a Ryedale and will need a cart to carry all the boxes out. Welcome to the world of penny sorting

Man! Has the Slickster got this one right or what? I started getting 5 bux at a time two times a week from different banks. Then I went to ten. Last week I did two boxes. This is worse than smoking.

I just finished my sort:

Only 3 canadians...2 of them copper.

12 wheats

75 from 1982 - will sort these later.

672 from 1959-1981.

Thats 27.44% copper, not including the 82's.

Rickygee.......addictive? Yes. Dangerous? No.

Smoking will kill you. Searching pennies is a fun hobby, and an inexpensive hobby too. I don't think it (searching coins) has been responsible for any deaths yet, either.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:

I remember stepping up from a few rolls to a whole box just a short time ago.

Pennies could kill you.. if your stack falls on you.

I recently opened a box like that. Picking my jaw off the ground I found that I had a whole box of shiny 2010's tauntingly staring at me. I cringe at wondering how many of those boxes are shiny, unless of course they are pre-1981 shiny. :)

decomputing, those boxes aren't 2010s because this pic was taken well before 2010. Those boxes may very well be sorted and gone....but of course replaced with a bigger stack of newer boxes.

One good way to find out if you got a box full of zinc is to weight it and see if it 14lbs. If its not, you're in luck and you can smile all the way to your hoard.

I buy only $3.00 per paycheck. My husband does not like it, but I told him that I am saving for retirement. I hope I can keep it under control. I do enjoy reading what others think. It lets me know that I am not alone.
