Today's find.

I know it's not super rare, but today I found a 1971-S penny on the ground at a gas station. I live on the East Coast so finding s coins in the wild is a rare treat!

Anyone else find anything good today?

Today's finds were a 2015 quarter and a 1962 penny.

Since you are on the East Coast, you might be interested to know something about errors (since you mentioned errors on a different thread).

It seems like there are a lot more errors that come from the "P" mint than from "D" and "S" combined. For instance, in looking at the Redbook for pennies going back to the early 80's until now I see the following:

P MINT:
1983 DDR
1984 Dbl. ear
1992 Close AM
1995 DDO
1998 Wide AM
1999 Wide AM
2000 Wide AM

D MINT:
1992-D Close AM

S MINT:
1998-S Close AM
1999-S Close AM

Thanks for the info!

I grew up in DE, so seeing any coins other than p's were few and far between.

When I got older, I spent time working in Baltimore, and actually hit a lot of d coins there. That really surprised me, since it's really not that far from Philly!

Today's find so far is a 1964-D penny.

It was actually sitting next to an employee's scale at the post office today. I asked the guy if I could have it, he chuckled and handed it to me. That's fine man, go ahead and laugh, but you just made me about .02 richer!!

Today's find is a 1965 penny, found on a floor of a store in a local mall.

I may try my metal detector this weekend, too.

If I see a penny on the ground I can easily tell the difference between a copper and a zinc. The copper has a distinct brown oxidation color that zincs don't have. I pick up the copper pennies, I leave the zincs.

Just be glad that you aren't color blind or have really poor vision...

Close up I can't see sh*t! After I pick it up I ping it, just to be sure. Cannot see the date without my readers.

I pick them all up. As I have mentioned in my book(link in signature), it's the most-free legal money you can get!

Today's find was a penny in a Goodwill store.. Isn't that an oxymoron, finding change in a store created for people with limited funds??!!

I'm starting to have that issue myself :(

My near vision started to go when I was around 47. It only gets worse with age. Anything farther than 3 feet in front of me, no problem.

Believe it or not, my wife and I both feel that our vision has actually IMPROVED with age. I used to wear glasses when reading, but haven't needed them for at least 15-20 years now. Not sure whether my wife was saying it was her near vision or distance vision that had improved.

Nice on the vision!

Today I got a 1978 penny in change. I also watched on Friday as a mother and her little boy walked right over a dollar bill on the floor in a convenience store. When I told my wife, she said our kids would have seen that bill from outside of the store! :D

Total of .31 found today (so far).

.26 of it was under bleachers at a kids' baseball diamond.

1 penny found was a 1981.

TF: .28, but no special coins.

I also watched the other day as 4 biker dudes frantically looked in weeds by the side of the road. Thinking that they dropped keys or coins, I went back there with my detector but didn't find anything.

Dimes, dimes, dimes.

I have been finding quite a few of these lately. When did this coin become more annoying than pennies to civilians??
