What's a Ryedale worth nowadays?

Postby creshka46 » Fri Aug 07, 2020 12:23 pm

Hey All,

Old member here. I used to be fairly involved here 5-10 years ago but life got busy. I'm clearing out my basement and have have bunch of numismatic paraphernalia :o I'm looking to offload, including an old Ryedale. Just wondering if these are still in demand. How strong is the penny hoarding industry these days? What kind of percentages are you getting? Assuming it still works, what is a fair market value on these things? (Side note, if you want to make an offer feel free to PM me). I've always missed the community on here. Good to see there's still some familiar names making posts.

Update: I went to the bank and got $5 in Loomis rolls to test the machine. And sure enough, it works great! 99.7% accurate. Even better, I pulled 32% copper and 6 wheats. I fear I may have the bug again  Maaaaaybe I won't sell....

What is 'normal' for a Ryedale?

I paid $250 for my third unit which was the last one I bought about 8 yrs ago. I would think the floor could be $200 if you pay less I would be suspect that the unit works correctly...they can be finicky.

I would consider that normal. Usually I will do a sort to accept zinc followed by a copper accept. So at about 20% copper (which is about what it was 5 years ago when I last did this) in a $50 bag, you might end up with about $40 in zincolns with maybe 10-15 coppers mixed in, and then $10 in copper cents with maybe 3 or 4 zincolns. But I always hand sorted the copper after the fact to find the wheats, so I would catch the zincolns and make sure my final copper stash was pure.

Good to know. I looked up my old PM's and found that I bought this one about 8 years ago for $440! but I think there was some other stuff included in the purchase. But thanks for the input. I was thinking I'd be lucky to get $100 bucks for it.
