Interesting article. It looks like they are not pleased if someone actually tries to take delivery of the metal!

From what I am reading, it unfortunately does not sound like copper supply overall is down though. Just that in-hand at the supplier, right?

We learned some years back, you either buy from the real market OR the trade on futures market.

The real market is where people can buy the metals but the price is set on the futures market.

The lesson comes from the people who bought into the silver futures market to take delivery at the end if the contract, only to learn the contract didn't have any real silver attached.

In fairness, people were paid some pretty impressive sums to do a cash settlement instead of taking physical. I believe the premiums on silver bars were in the order of 20-30%. The problem with everyone demanding to take physical possession is that the exchange can declare a “force majuere” situation, which is similar to bankruptcy.
