Weird 1996 error

I found this in a Coinstar reject bin last week. I've never seen anything like this. Almost 2x the thickness of a normal penny. What type of error is this? Sorry about the pic size.

If only the rim is thick it could have been in a dryer or washing machine. People make rings out of silver coins by tapping the O.D. so I suppose someone could have done that with a cent? Is the weight correct?

My first thought was ,rolled edge from being trapped in a machine.

It's about the same thickness as a nickel, but a bit smaller in diameter.

I'll take better comparison pics and post them soon.
