I acctually ended up with a 1922 D penny. It was worth about $8, which isn't bad at all.

It would be cool if there was a list that was arranged by approx. market value.

A 1959 Wheat cent would be on a plane with the 1913 Liberty nickles. For anyone who doesn't know, there were at least 5, perhaps 6 minted when the mint started minting the Buffalo nickle. The stories I have read said they were illegally minted and smuggled out of the mint. Those have sold for millions of dollars. Perhaps one of us will find one. I can't fathom what a real 1959 wheat would sell for. It definately would be the key to the series.

While I was reading another post about 2009 nickles someone commented about 2009 pennies, how nice they are. Well, it got me thinking about those 2009 pennies in all those mint and proof sets. They were minted with the old formula of 95% copper. What I am getting at is if you ever have a 2009 end up in your sorted box of coppers, perhaps you should weigh it. I know for someone to spend one, a proof or mint set had to get cracked open, but it could happen. And being all bright and shiny one of those coppers could get tossed in with the zincs. I know I will be weighing all those 2009's I find.

Barry,

Could you add these sites to your first post:

http://www.lincolncentresource.com
http://www.coppercoins.com
http://www.doubleddie.com

These are all sites that help distinguish Lincoln cent errors, etc., and have been helpful for me.

Thanks for the list!

The 1944 steel cent is missing on the list

"1943-P Should be a steel cent but there are reports of some struck using copper."

Last January while in Florida, my wife and self went to the F.U.N. show in Tampa. On exhibit was the "Simpson Collection" of both PDS sets of the 1943 copper, and 1944 steel cents, which we saw! So it's more then a report!

Plus, I had a man come to my shop around 1986 with a 1943-P copper cent certified by ANACS, which he wanted to sell, but wanted too much for it, no room for profit($22,000). I had to let it go. :(

Here is a link to an article on the Long Beach Auction of Benson Collection showing similar coins including the infamous 1959 Wheat cent.

I normally only look for the 1998-2000 WAMs and 1992(d) CAMs. I didn't even realize there are 1996 WAMs. Geez. I've found several 98 and 00's - zero 99's and zero 92s. I have rolls and rolls of wheats -someday I'll go thru them for errors, etc. and roll by year, mint mark, etc. Someday........

You are a very astute young man! I started when I was 7 years old. Keep saving money and buying coins... some silver ones too if you can.

+1 to collecting coins at an early age. Imagine how well off our country would be if people put saving money (or coins) ahead of spending themselves into oblivion?

Has anyone found any others that need to be added to this list?

I am going to print this out and try my luck at error hunting, at least for a while. It will depend on how much time more time it takes me to do so since I hand sort....

It is a lot of dates to have to try to keep all of seperately to check later... but that might be the best thing for me do since I am trying to sort through many $ worth as fast as I can and dump to re purchase more quickly.

Anyone have a system that works good for them?

Wow...that's a lot to look for. I'm sure the wheat errors and any of the Double Dies are valuable but are all the other ones, like Wide AM's and doubling on steps actually worth looking for? Do they carry a nice premium?

I have a 5 gallon water jug of pennies I have been stuffing since 1982. Last year I found a 1972 DD within it. With little luck getting 90% at a decent price recently, I dipped back into the jug to search and this AM found a 1983DDO on "states of". I love this jug!

Does anyone have a more up-to-date version of this list? Surely there are newer ones since the original post that people have updated and posted somewhere? I can find different lists but not one complete entire list that we should look out for. There are some very helpful people on TikTok that post videos of different years to look for, but is there one big list anyone is aware of? Thanks!
