Where to have a 09-S VDB graded? pcgs ngc or other?

Postby misteroman » Thu Feb 20, 2014 6:15 pm

Bought from a very respected member on here years ago along with a 31-s and an 09-s and will be putting on ebay soon and I know people don't care for non graded ones because of the number of fakes. Coin would grad strong xf and possibly AU but doubt it. Only problem is it has a scratch from the head to rim at about 2 o'clock . Not sure if the first one would grade of just grade and add details.
any help a appreciated
Thanks
D

When buying a coin, I personally prefer PCGS grading for cents, because they have, in my opinion, more stringent standards for making the grade.
As a seller, that might work against you, but I think that more people want PCGS grading than NGC for pennies. Even if you get a lower grade with PCGS than NGC, you probably will have more people interested in buying a PCGS-graded coin.

Either PCGS or NGC and you will be fine. I wouldn't use any other than those 2.

With the scratch, it makes the coin ungradeable... I would just send it to the cheapest of top 4... PCGS, NGC, ICG, or ANACS to get it authenticated. Basically, ICG or ANACS

Even though PCGS now puts net grades, you would go with one of the others? I would think a "net XF" PCGS would be better than an ICG, ANACS.

I've been out of the game for a while though :)

XF or AU... doesn't really matter who grades it if it is scratched... JMHO, but the coin is a hole filler and the ultimate buyer just wants to be sure that it is real, not that PCGS has such and such opinion. Last time I checked, ANACS was offering authentication services for $9 ea. No grade, just a pass or fail. PCGS would be considerably higher for the same information.
