UPDATE We bought Canadian .999 Nickels at .8 face today!!!

Postby henrysmedford » Tue Nov 13, 2012 7:27 pm

Today I asked about Canadian coins at the LCS and found they buy at .6 and sell at .8 face. The only rule he has is you have to buy the hole tray of what he has at the time so the nickel tray had only $6.25 face so we got it for $5.00 and we go one chrome 1953 and one 1751-1951 and $3.75 in pre 1982 nickel. We also found first come first served and someone cleared him out last week of all of his Canadian coins. So we now will ask more often.

Up where I am the LCS patrons all give me dirty looks for asking if they have any... I think they think Im turning them into scrap metal or something. Only the blue collar looking people at the coin show booths will even talk about .999 Ni nickles. Im starting to believe I have some snobby LCS.

Cool. If I could buy them at that price, I definitely would. I can't stomach the premiums Canadians nickels usually carry...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

One day, those pre82's will be like having a bag of liberty's and peoples jaws will drop. I tell my daughter, just keep them for the grand-kids. In 2080 they'll really be worth something.

Nice score. George V are prized.

I'm going to have to figure out how to put up the pictures of the British cupronickel half crowns and florins scores at my local shop. Amazingly enough, also at 0.8x face (after factoring conversion from shillings, to pence, then to Canadian) Pre 1970 British pennies are always at least 1.5x copper spot.

I ended up getting some Canadian nickels at .8 face value too! Only a couple bucks worth, but I'll take it! Plus I added more than 100 canadian coppers to the mix as well
