Mexican coins

Postby Sheikh_yer_Bu'Tay » Thu Feb 10, 2011 2:49 pm

This is likely to be an old, retread topic for some of you guys. Canadian coins come up in discussion all the time. I very rarely see them. I see Mexican coins far more often.

Would someone here please post some links so I may look up the coins I am finding? I work with Hispanics all the time and maybe they could "bird-dog" some of their silver coins up north to me. I just need to know what to look for, and how much they are worth.

Thanks for any advice you may offer! :)

Good morning gents.

Is the list above exhaustive?

Does anyone know of a "coinflation" type site for Mexican silver?

Thanks.....Pachucko

i bought all of them off ebay, its really easy to get junk silver for spot and under there. i snagged 175 of the 5 peso coins for $18.54 a pop when spot was just under $30 the first time and the 20 olympic peso's were picked up for $14.78 a piece around the same time.

I am headed to a coin shop today to buy a book on world coins. Sounds like you made a terrific score!!

For sure, "Thanks".

The list has coins the calculator does not (be my luck to find the missing coins). I tried to use that calculator to get the ASW for the above list, and some of the dates and percentages don't match up. 1, 5, 10 pesos.

But thanks to both Dereck Sheriff and Cerulian.

i just snagged 50 100 peso's, good price but im not that fond of anything under 80%. the price dictated that i put a bid in and i came up with it. came out to $18.83 a pop or $29.43/oz after the rebates.

If you're talking about the 1977-1978 100 Peso SILVER coins, they are only 72%. :?

I have no problems with any SILVER coins, except perhaps the Mexico 10% Pesos and the Mexico 30% 25c, which really don't have much SILVER in them. 50% GB and Australian coins are good no problem SILVERs. Rather than SILVER fineness, it's all about price. If you can get 'em cheap and well below spot, buy them.

Can anyone tell me the composition of a 1959 5 peso coin? Or where to look for it? I've tried researching it on Google but to no avail. Besides being 72% silver, I can't seem to find anything else.

everywhere i go i see a 10% markup above silver value on all these mexican coins. Most are 72% and a few 90%. I thought foreign silver was suppose to be cheaper than american silver. what gives? i see provident metals has OK prices on mexican coins. Does any one else have suggestions on where to find good buys on mexican silver?

I just found a 1964 25 centavo and thought it was silver, but the chart doesn't have it listed.
What the heck is it? It really does look silver :-{
