Help me with this 1792 Great Britain Gold Guinea

Postby Robarons » Sun Jan 08, 2023 7:37 pm

Bought this today as a 1792 Great Britain 1/4 Quarter Gold Guinea. But doing some research it turns out they did not make them that year. So I an at loss at what this coin is. The dealer is reputable so I do not think its fake but I cant find anything. I notice there is an ‘ID’ under the bust. Which none of the Guinea have.

Any thoughts?

Wow, what a find! What is the gross weight of this particular coin? And have you had a chance to analyze content? Is it 22k?

Most likely an Imitation Spade Guinea

https://www.thetokensociety.org.uk/article.pdf

The spade imitations were issued between 1788 and 1802 and an increasing number of manufacturers became involved in their production, often adding their name or initials to the piece, usually below the bust.

Did not take out of the holder in case I have to give it back to the dealer who sold it to me. So no weight on this one yet.

But imitation spade Guinea. That would make sense. The coin just seems off for the year and my first thought would be a different mint, but looks like they really did not exist that year. It looks like a contemporary piece from the period however. Does not look current.

Well safe to say I am returning this back unless more information surfaces about this.

Thank you for the help

Wow, you are lucky if you have the option to return it.

Also, you are lucky to have the internet to turn to an a site like Real Cent with a wealth of knowledge!

Also, please research covered calls (options) as well.
