A new one for me. At a thrift store, yes dear another one, when looking at coffee cups, there were five pennies in one. On the ground was another. Someone throwing away those worthless coins????. One copper, right percentage.

And a new one for me as well- the drive through lanes as fast-food places like McDonalds. I just discovered this recently while waiting in a long slow line late at night. I imagine that many young people who drop change will NOT open their doors to pick it up, especially when on a date or with someone they are trying to impress. I, on the other hand, wouldn't think twice about stooping over in front of my wife.

And another new one for me- in my own trash can at home. I have no idea how it got in there, and my wife is very frugal. Thankfully, I go through all the trash very carefully before taking it outside. It was only a modern date nickel this time.

Okay, okay, okay. You go through your trash before you set it out? Really? What the hell are you looking for? Just sayin', hehe....

Let me clarify something. I like to separate recyclable items from the other trash. Others in my house throw lots of recyclable materials in with the trash. In spite of my efforts to educate said others, old habits continue. You’d be surprised at the things that I have found in my own trash can- indoors before taking it outside. I have found a blank check, a watch, flatware, money, etc. I don’t know if someone was just tired when they threw them out or what...

Then again, my name might provide a hint about my tendencies.

2 cents in a TSA tray. It was a very poor consolation prize for the aftershave and hair gel they confiscated.

Here is a new one for me. I found 17 cents under my own washing machine, not inside the dryer. I was trying to figure out what happened (along with my wife) and here is what I think happened. My wife has a habit of taking change out of the pockets of clothing and setting it on top of the washer. She wasn't thinking, however, about how the machine moves around and shakes as it is operational. I'm guessing the coins were shaken and fell onto the floor and then rolled under the machine. All four coins were near each other and near the middle of the underside of the machine.

Reminds me of when I was young, I would go by this one fast food chain once a week and pick up gobs of change on the ground (easily at least a dollars worth every time).

Here is a new one that I haven't seen mentioned...

A number of years ago I bought a Ryedale penny sorter from good 'ole Andy in Michigan, who made the machines and used to be on this site before closing up shop. He shipped the machine and in with it were 50 empty $50 penny bags- the nice heavy duty burlap ones. It never occurred to me to shake the bags to see if anything falls out- until tonight. While cleaning up a bit I decided to do so and out popped 26 cents- a 1993 penny and a late date quarter.

It took me about 5 years to think of that. Oh well...

Found copper clad quarter at salvage yard while unloading scrap. It bought the grandson a gumball.

A zinc cent in the sand under the swings at the local park. My son was kicking the sand each time he swung thru and exposed the coin.

Off topic a bit but I made an unusual find today. I was cleaning out my storage unit and brought a dresser home to sell. I opened it up to check the drawers and heard something fall. Looking down it was yellow metal thing. I picked it up. It was a Gold filling. Must have been in the drawer. It has been on quite the journey so it was amazing it survived and fell out on my house. Free gold made me smile
