I don’t post every coin I find at the local Walmart Coinstar, but today was interesting.

Saw a red drink cup sitting on the ledge in front of the counter. Inside was:

6 quarters
2 dimes
5 pennies

Total of $1.75.

All U.S. coins- no good dates.

With those coins included, I just became a billionaire! Ok, maybe not. Actually, if you were THAT CLOSE to billionaire status and still checking CS machines, that would be one of the most frugal people on the planet!
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

February has shown to be a bonanza month now and then and while the US total was on par with January, my new casino sweet spot has been absolutely on fire, coughing up even a steelie in addition to plenty of foreigns. Only once this year has there been no finds there. I wish my other stops produced this well. My all-time Canadian record for one year is $8.30 in 2019. I think I have a serious shot at beating it this year. I'll include a running total with each month's report.

February totals (2025 totals)

1¢ - .17 (.38)
5¢ - .15 (.35)
10¢ - .90 (1.60)

There's nothing like knowing how much this all adds up to. I applaud the sheeple who lazily drop it all.

Another rare for me day, as I was exiting Publix, their coin sorter had something in thr discard so I stuck my hand in.

1 US quarter
5 US zinc cents
1 steel Canadian dime
1 1999 Canadian cent
1 US steel cent
and (drum roll)
1 1913 Canadian silver dime, worth something over 2 bucks.

Well, what is normally a barren landscape for me has been very fruitful this week. Was hunting for my wife's favorite coffee creamer and hit two more Publix stores, found another (oddly brand new) US quarter, and (perfect timing, as I will be headed to Europe later this year) a 1 Euro coin. Not shabby.

Local Walmart coinstar - 16 cents. A penny a nickel and a dime.

And then a penny in their parking lot as I was leaving.

The porous US border may have finally been dealt with but I'll never complain about the immigration of foreign coins I've been finding in Coinstars so far this year. At this pace I may set a new country record and potentially double my best ever Canadian total. On the US front, it's sort of the opposite: skunked on silver for now, wheaties are still proving scarce and the avg circ stuff is lagging behind years past. Only my apartment complex parking lot is holding its own with at least a penny a day for the year.

March totals (2025 totals)

1¢ - .11 (.49)
5¢ - .15 (.50)
10¢ - .90 (2.50)
25¢ - 1.50 (4.25)
Total - 2.66 (7.74)
