Hello Fellow Copper Penny Handsorters:

In December 2010, please post your finds right here.

For those of us who handsort our COPPER, this is the place to report your COPPER treasure. I'll be working up some statistics as the reports flow.

Please report the face value of the pennies searched and the total number of US COPPERs found. Also, list the total number of Wheats, COPPER Canadians, and any wonderful Indian Heads you find. If you find foreign coins in your search for COPPERs, list them too. List the percentage of COPPERs found: the percentage I use is the number of coppers (non-Wheats, non-Canadians) found in the face value of pennies searched. Personally, I breakdown my US COPPERs into 4 categories: Wheats, Clean COPPERS (1959-1981), Ugly Abes (1959-1981), and 1982s (the Ugly 1982s I send them back into the wild); I roll mine up separately and put them into separate $25 boxes for storage.

I'll try to post some graphs of our COPPER finds as 2010 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2010 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Indian Heads, Wheats, and COPPER pennies are found . I'll try to keep track of all of these.

You need a Ryedale Ace. It works great to separate coppers, especially good for the difficult 1982s. The Ryedale Ace ($109 shipped from Andy) gets handsorting done in twice the time. I use it for all my handsorting!!

Total COPPERs found (non-Wheats, non-Canadians) should include: Clean US Copper (1959-81), Ugly Abes (1959-1981), and COPPER 1982s. The Wheats and Canadian COPPERs shouldn't be added into the US COPPER totals. However, I keep track of the COPPER Wheats and Canadians separately.

$10 sort last night.
23% US copper, including 2 wheats: 1942 and 1944. Wish I had found the guy that belongs between them, but I did get a 1943S from the coin shop on Monday.
One Canadian, 1997.
But the best find was: 1983 Zimbabwe cent.
Lots of dirty and well circulated 2010 stuff.
