about that...

he got worried about his dog fence. more or less told us we couldn't. were not done negotiating yet, we are going to suggest we map the dog fence and work around it. it is a farm so the fields and other ground is an option also, but for this weekend its a bust.

i did go to a school site from 1962 and hunted a pile of fill from an 1800s site.

the school netted me 1 1974 penny, 5 clad dimes, a quarter, and some copper and lead scrap.

the pile of fill netted some "relics" that i left in the pile. old heyholes and random iron crap.

I had an hour to hit the local beach this morning before I went to see my grandson in a parade. Bingo, $85.00 cash just laying on the sand. 8-) :P

When your looking for a spot to detect, where do you begin. I live on the coast so i only hit the beach up. Id like to start doing other terrain but i get over whelmed. How do you go about asking for permission and what not?

Frank T's Guide to Seeking Treasures
absolutely step #1( To find anything older) CENSUS MAPS OF YOUR AREA!!! get on your computer and run a search for one, they should come up ez. search for your town or your county. the older map you can get the better. this will let you know what was there x years ago and an idea of where you should be. now are any areas not posted, in the woods, or do your friends own an 1800s house?? what is your towns law on right of ways, if sidewalks are fair game, that little strip can be profitable.

as far as asking permission the worst someone can do is say no. get your guts together, be polite, and keep trying there are still reasonable people in the world. offer them 50% if you have to.

If your town tears up sidewalks or peoples yards they tend not to care (what damage could he do). and the three or four inches of ground missing makes old stuff close to the surface.

try google earth for current terrain maps, look for little squares in the middle of nowhere. (probably a house foundation) just hit em all till you get on something.

dont be scared to get skunked trying to find a place, because when you do you could have months of hunting and a place to go back to when your having problems finding other locations.

this all being said, i am running thin on spots, i will travel for hunts, and i will accept 10% of any metal detecting finds found with frank t's patented treasure seeking guide.

I haven't got out swinging since the end of June. I've been on the disabled list!!!! I had an accident and it got worse and worse. But I'm back now.

I got invited to an old park today by JohnLaw09, a fellow hunter from another website. He was already out there with his little guy. I've been hounding the guy to get together on his turf.

I get there and the first coin I dig............my first silver war nickel.:D:D:D:D

I really thought I had another pull tab or coin slaw. I hunt gold so dig too much junk!

My next coin was a 1941D wheat. Both of these coins were at roughly 5 inches.

I found a few modern pennies and nickels and then I found my second ever Indian Head Cent. 1905!!! When I saw green in the hole I knew it was old!

I dug a little clad for a workout. I also ended up finding 2 more old shotgun heads for Mr. Turtlefoot, a former local guy that collects old shotgun shell headstamps! I am making a pile for him. Christmas is coming!!!

As I was finishing up, I hit wheat #2 for the day. This is a very promising "hunted out" park. I will be back!!!

Nice injun TJCF!!!

I finally went detecting yesterday evening after a month+ of not getting out.
A friend called me to see if I could help a guy out by looking for his wedding band in his yard, he lost it 2 weeks ago. So I went over and found it in about 5 minutes flat!

After dinner I went to my usual spot and within 15 minutes I had a 1941 silver quarter and I was a happy camper. Then I found a 1947 5 francs coin from France, it's pretty corroded, I think it's aluminum. Then I got to an area where a bunch of silver coins have been found so I decided to dig some pulltab signals to try to find some nickels or some more play money and on the 4th or 5th one out pops a gold ring!!!

my totals for the day were:
24 LMC's
3 dimes
5 quarters
$1.89 total clad
plus:
10 wheaties
1941 silver quarter (silver coin # 22 for 2013)
1947 5 francs
Dwight D Eisenhower token
13.3 gram gold ring (no markings, needs to be tested)

I went back to my favorite place to detect again this evening for about 3 hours. I found something I never expected!

My take for the day:
1 quarter
8 dimes
23 pennies
$1.28 total

plus 17 wheaties, a 1950 silver quarter and a copper Lincoln Memorial cent that is about 50% off-center!
The silver quarter makes 23 silver coins found so far this year.

Been hitting some old "hunted out" parks trying to find anything.

I did hit 4 wheats and the usual junk. No silver this time.

Since today is Labor day and summer is just about over, I decided to do some water hunting at a local beach.
My buddy Gary met me there and he hunted dry sand & ankle deep water while I stayed knee deep to waist deep.

He found more clad then me but I think I can open a tackle shop with all of the sinkers I found!

Do you recycle, sell back to the tackle shop, or to the guys making their own bullets?

Looks like a couple of pounds, easy.

scrap lead here was 25c a lb a little while ago.
great finds lately guys.
i was out with my brother and dad yesterday i found a old play ring, copper, ornate, and a big blue stone or glass in it. my father got a 57 roosie in super nice shape and two fourtys wheats. my little bro got a 1867 2 cent, it is NICE. AND its a 2 center as i understand they were generally weakly struck so would wear out E Z. the one i found this year is readable so great shape for a dig, but his, the we is bold and sharp lines overall. needless to say we had a blast.
today i took a buddy out he got a 2002 zinc. lol. i got a 52 wheat. (smileyface)
