April 17th

2 hours

17 copper pennies
30 zinc pennies
7 nickels
16 dimes
11 quarters

Possible silver ring.

Got out this afternoon for another 2 hour hunt. Got chased away by some rain. This hunt was at another one of my favorite hunting spots. I ended up hitting 20 or so pennies before I hit any clad. Also, I may have got ring #2 for the year. Looks silver, maybe a toe ring. Got it in about 4 inches. The outside of the ring is reeded like a dime. You can see it in the picture. When I first saw it in the hole, I thought I had a silver dime.

Well here's the usual coins and junk. I did hit a boy scout's whatchamacallit for his hankerchief...guys help me.

Image

Here's a better shot of the possible ring! The edges and rim is very smooth like a ring. I could be wrong.

Here's the keeper stuff. The clad, possibl ring, and the cub/boy scout hingy.

Congrats on the boy scout neckerchief slider. Those are always fun to find. Also, more coins for you coin count and possible silver. Sounds like a good location to check out every once in a while.

Have you ever noticed it's harder to say "NO" to somebody else's kids. Now I haven't posted my recent hunts...have 2 or 3 to post but yesterday I was out and these 2 little kids...brother sister tag-team...they went crazy as I found the usual bunch of pennies. Each time I set the Ace down to dig the coin...they would get closer...and closer....then they struck...the older little lady just grabs the Ace and starts detecting...in the past I've had too many kiddies just ask me...."Can I try?" Not this little future gold-digger  .....so I just let her do her thing...lucky for her she was at the park with her older brother and not her mom or dad....now here comes her little bother....yes spelling is right...her little BOTHER...he wants his turn....doesn't ask me...asks her...I'm like....hey I think it's my turn....anyway here we have the little guy chasing her around...with my Ace! So, to make a long story short...I was able to free the Ace from the little future home-wrecker  and ended up letting her bother....spelling is right :D ...her BOTHER have his turn. I just knew they were going to find freakin' gold....but no gold...no lawsuits...no cops...no amber alerts...but they found 5 pennies between them....and I MADE them keep 'em. Then before I left....in front of their older brother....I talked to them about talking to strangers....especially ones that look like me  ....I have GOLD FEVER! And, of course, I had to tell them....then right down on a piece of paper...the name of the detector...both said they had birthdays coming up......I got out of there before they tag-teamed me again....it's so hard to say "NO" to somebody else's kids!

Got out for 1 ½ hours at an old church that I was lucky enough to get permission to detect. Unfortunately, they brought fill in about 20 years ago when they put a parking lot in.

Anyway here was the take:

55 – 1 (including one 1957 wheat penny
8 - 5
34 - 10
21 – 25
2 - foreign

120 total

One of the foreign coins was a $2.00 Hong Kong coin. Stopped digging zinc penny signals ... just too many.

Also found six scout sliders. My step-son had scout meetings there about six years ago.

Just purchased a Tesoro U Max.

Today, after 15 min, found 1 silver quarter (1962) in my backyard.

Beginner's luck.

Cheers

Spent several hours trying to help a guy find his wedding ring that was lost about 3 weeks ago. He bought a cheapo detector and tried to find it himself without any luck. He had no idea where the ring was lost including whether or not it was on his property of about two acres. I had no luck either :( but cleaned his place of every pull tab.

Had a little better luck later in the day at a field near my house. The field usually has high grass but the grass was just recently cut. I went over to this field once before about ten years ago and came away with the assumption that there was nothing there but trash. Found a total of 16 coins in two hours:

12 - 1
2 - 10
1 - 5 (Buffalo nickel 1929S) :)
1 - 50 (Canada 1951) :D

Also found a metal discus and an old navy button. At least I assume it's a naval button ... naval reserve used to be located at a building next to the field. I was very surprised to find a silver half and the fact that it was Canadian was extra strange. There was also a ton of slaw, wire (some heavy gage copper wire too), bottle caps, pulltabs and even a couple of square nails.

Found my second piece of gold jewelry. A 14K white gold hoop earring that I thought was junk....I've found many hoops...none were gold. I thought it didn't weigh much either until I weighed it on my digital scale...2.26 grams! :D That's a good $60 with gold at $1500/oz.! :D Get some pics up sometime tomorrow! (44D wheat in background)

Another $6 in clad/pennies...who cares...I got more gold! :D

Hit ring #6 this year....a big fat class ring! I'm in the process of getting hold of the owner...man I thought it was big time gold when I turned the sod over...and this sucker was laying right there...couldn't tell until I picked it up that it was a class ring. What a rush....I ran it over to a jeweler on the way home to see what I was returning...I thought it was 10K.

Anyway...working on re-sizing the pic for everyone here.

I hit ring #7 today....but as I cleaned it up a bit...it looked plated to me...but it found in a mix dirt and limestone gravel....stuffs like concrete when it dries. It was a small woman's ring. I thought it was a wedding band at first...stone was missing. It tries really hard to stick to my magnet....bad sign.

2 rings in 2 hunts...I like that average!

************************UPDATE************************

I found the owner...and he is excited to get his class ring back! I mailed it to him today! He told me he lost in 1998. So, in 13 years in only sank into the bottom of the sod....maybe because of how big the ring was...but anyway...feels good doing the right thing!
