I don't think you realize how good of a score this is nowadays. No one is finding anything anymore, and you just act all nonchalant about it, like it's your entitlement because you went to the effort to search. Silver is essentially gone from circulation, what with increased competition from searchers and eyes being opened by all the media as to silver's value... the ignorant people who have been feeding us are wising up.

LOL.. I would not say I was purposefully being nonchalant. Maybe more shocked. I did not want to rub salt into the wounds of the skunks being reported. I was also under the impression of the silver being dried up around my parts as well. I did have 8 skunk boxes on Monday and then somehow hit a homerun on Wednesday. I still can't believe I hit the vein that I did. I have 4 more boxes waiting for me on Monday when I can pick them up. I hope they are from the same batch!! :D

2-Boxes Niks
3-WN

first box was a skunk but the second made up for it. two of the three war nickles were absolutely stunning AU specimens.

On half searching:

I think the silver searchers have increased and the coin service people are also cleaning out anything they can find.

I am at twenty half boxes in a row skunked. We shall see. Good luck everyone!

Except for some lucky finds in a few geographical areas, I see the number of SKUNK boxes expanding each month now. 58% of half boxes have been SKUNKS this month. Personally, I've just about given up SILVER searching in my area, with the exception of the clear see through Brink's dime boxes that are easy to search and return. Even with dimes, I am only getting one or two SILVER dimes per $1000. Hardly worth it, but it is convenient. I'm putting most of my sorting time gleaning COPPER pennies, which are still abundantly available. If you can't find SILVER, I think it's time to sort COPPER.

The latest SILVER stats for March have been posted. Look to the first post of this thread to get the details. Always look to the line just before the Kitco quotes to see the last post that was included in the latest update.

Stopped by a bank near where I was working on Friday and they had $5.00 in Halves. The teller started to count them out when I noticed a Franklin in the pile. The teller did not even slow down on the count for silver Half Dollar, I was amazed. It's been a while since I have been able to score a Franklin from loose half dollars. It was a nice conditioned 1962-D.

I picked up another Brinks $250 dime box this morning and found:

3--90% Rosies ('63, '63, '64)
1--90% Mercury (1945)
1--2007 Aruba 10 Cent coin (VERY thick and weighs almost nothing)

A great morning thus far :)

EDIT: I went through this box again to empty all the rolls into a bag and found a 2007 Danmark 25 ore (whatever that is). Yes, it says "Danmark" not "Denmark".

I got two boxes on Friday. Loomis had dropped them, smashed them and then taped them back up. We opened one at the bank and it was intact. I didn't bother opening the other. I wish I had. One of the rolls was torn and the halves were loose. It was short $4.50.

Box 1 4-40%
Box 2 shunk and to add insult it was the one that was $4.50 short.

Went to dump my last skunk box of halves today and of course i filled the bag on the machine. As the woman was dragging it away, the bag ripped and she had to transfer the halves (and from my vantage point an awful lot of non-half dollar coins) into another bag. I could hear the silver as she transfered it. So frustrating! This bank will not sell its bags of coins to me, and this is not the first time i have seen or heard silver in the bags! Oh well, more for you guys to find later!

Searched:
1 brinks box of dimes = 3 silver rosies!
1 brinks box of nickels = skunk
40.00 cwr halves = 1977-s proof
6.50 loose halves = skunk.

Dano - They may not sell the bags to you, but if they're open (or ripped in your case), they may let you trade a half for a half inside the bag. All they care about is that the count in the bag stays the same. If you go back a few posts you'll see where I did this on March 7th and got 22 keepers (19 were walking liberty halves).

Next time you hear silver in an open bag ask if you can swap out halves for halves.
