$870 in Canadian customer wrapped dimes and quarters yielded $6.70 in US coins. A lot of rolls were marketed with an X and a few checks showed they were already sorted by a coin roll hunter. Silver is very rare but I'd hoped to see more US coins I could make a spread on. Not too be.

So I've been complaining about my poor luck with dimes lately. While dumping today a coin was rejected about halfway through.
Out pops a 1911-D Barber!!!!! Oops! Good thing I got my first pair of glasses earlier this week. And good to know that this machine rejects silver.

Also, 10.00 cwr halves & 250.00 BWR dimes = skunk.

Where is the best place to get boxes/rolls? Big city or small town? Or does it matter?

When we were in Sacramento I went through many boxes of all denominations and never found anything except for a few wheat pennies, a few buffalos and a couple war nickels. Every box of quarters, dimes and halves were skunks. So now were in rural Texas where most banks are small and local. I've been thinking about trying again.

That's what I was thinking too as I was compiling the list. What really amazes me is that the teller knew the rolls were full of silver and just had them sitting in her drawer. Someone picking up a roll of quarters to do their laundry could have wound up with them before too long. But I saved them from that fate.

If you are looking for big scores like this, skip the boxes and bank wrapped rolls and just go for the customer wrapped ones. Find out the policy at different banks regarding how they handle the coins customers bring in. Do they just ship them off or do they hold on to them all? None of the banks around here have coin counters so that option doesn't come into play. If their policy is to hold on to them, find out which branches have tellers that know the value of the good stuff and which ones don't. This should narrow the search down to the branches in the area with lots of coins to search through that tellers can't wait to get out of their drawer/vault. It also helps when one of Thogey's widows lives in the same area.

Congrats BIG TIME, TwoAndAHalfCents!!! Finding silver in quarters is so tough, that must have felt great. Best I ever had was a $500 bag w/ 21 silvers back in 2010 or 2011. Yours is just a fantastic find.
