Work sent me out of town today so I hit a few banks up North and found that they are hunted very hard up there. I must have picked up a lot of dumps..

$1240.00 in CWR of Halves (1 40%)
(1) 1969-D

$250.00 box of dimes clear plastic wrap (3 silver Roosie's)
(1) 1961-D
(1) 1962-D
(1) 1964-D

At least I still got me a little silver.

On a side note I do have a contact that I visit every once in a while and he hooked me up with 7 generic 1 ounce rounds and bars for $36.00 each even with silver at $37.30.. :D I need to visit him more often.

Good morning all!!!

First box of halves this week yielded......3 x 40%'s. 1 x '67 and 2 x 68's. Not great but at least silver! I was advised during the pick up that they could only get 2 boxes this week. They have order more from the fed. I can only hope I've run out of this skunk pallet!!!

It doesn't work that way... it's the reverse. If they're ordering from the Fed they will most likely all be solid date modern rolls.

2 boxes of dimes---1 silver Roosevelt

$457.50 bag of halves---had a metal twist tie and a soft metal crimp sealing the canvas bag. Also had a "toe tag" tied to it with the amount and a date of 8-7-08. I thought this might be good--a bag sealed up for two and a half years! NO LUCK :( No silver and the bag was short $1.00 and the only odd stuff in the bag were a couple pins and a Q-Tip.

sisuraha wrote:I'm new to the penny board today. This is my first post to this category. This month I've searched approx $1800 in CWRs of dimes. I look for old BUs, proofs, errors, DVs and of course silver. I've found 13 roosevelts and 3 mercs. Last two weeks I've hit 18 banks, gathering $324 in halves. Found one walker, one franklin, two 1964s and four 40% Kennedys. I also ask for "big dollars" and found only 15 this month but at one bank I noticed the one "Ike" a teller handed me was silver and to my surprise, it was a 1922 Peace $ in XF! It's the third old silver dollar I've found in the past five years, searching an estimated 10,000 big dollars, all from banks. As an item of interest, since this is my first post in this category, my best three finds are: #1: Out of $140 in CWR halves, I found $110 in 90% silver, including $70 in Franklins. #2: Out of $290 in halves I found $273 in silver, 17 coins were 90%, the rest 40%. #3: About two years ago in one Strings box of halves (I used to do them for a while until the number of silver regularly dropped to zero) I found 199 pieces of silver. 28 walkers (I knew it was going to be a great box when immediately upon opening it, I saw 2 walkers on the ends!), 37 franklins, 18 90% and 116 40% Kennedys. To date, during the past 5 years of searching well over $50,000 in halves, I've found over 200 proofs, 7 heads-heads, one tails-tails and 19 pull-apart (scotch 'n soda - magic trick) halves with the machined-out center reverse containing a Mexican 20 centavos piece. I find them via two methods: a. I check every half for a rotated reverse - *every* time it's been one of these "trick" coins. b. I weigh all the rolls I get. These trick coins weigh about 0.7 grams less than a regular clad half, so a CWR usually weighs under 225 grams. If the weight is low, I do a quick binary weight search.

WELCOME!!! Nice SILVER finds too!!!

To be included in the stats, I need exact counts. Please indicate the quantities of coins searched.

This one DOES NOT COUNT: " This month I've searched approx $1800 in CWRs of dimes. I've found 13 roosevelts and 3 mercs."

This one counts: "Last two weeks I've hit 18 banks, gathering $324 in halves. Found one walker, one franklin, two 1964s and four 40% Kennedys."

This one counts for this month: "I noticed the one "Ike" a teller handed me was silver and to my surprise, it was a 1922 Peace $ in XF!"

Older finds DO NOT COUNT.

Thank you very much, and I'm in New York City.

Thank God you didn't score this find on the West Coast. I would be grieving for weeks. Glad for you one of us found them and not some teller. Gives hope to the rest of us... although I strongly suspect that box 6 of yours may well be an all-time record since Country has been tracking these. 83 oz! Amazing. :o  :? Dude... you found more in one day then I found in the entire last year.

CardNCoins' 172 SILVER box of halves (169-90%ers and 3-40%ers) is a great box. That is the most 90%ers ever reported in a box of halves. However, there were some boxes in 2010 that cointained even more SILVER halves.

Here's some good stuff from 2010.

The best half bag of 2010: JJM - 3/6/10 397 $620 vault bag - 89-90%ers (11 Bens and 78 '64s) and 308-40%ers

The top 5 half boxes of 2010:

12kHz - 3/13/10 155 (2 Bens,153-40%ers)
12khz - 2/11/10, 161 (One '64 and 160-40%ers)
12kHz - 3/25/10 235 (One Walker and 234-40%ers)
12kHz - 2/11/10 287 (3-'64s, One Ben, and 283-40%ers)
12kHz - 3/25/10 311 (One '64 and 308-40%ers)

3/25/10 Report from 12kHz

Ho, ho, ho! Silver Santa is at it again! I've shattered my old weekly record, this time with three mega-boxes. I just can't believe the luck I'm having.

Hey Country, amazing finds in the 40%'s. That amazes me though how there can be so many 40%'s and so few 90%'s. You'd think whoever dumped the 40%'s would have also dumped a boat load of 90%'s. Not that you're complaining I'm sure. :D I'm inspired to try harder.
