First Day of the Year Finds

My three usual stops (Smith's, Albertson's, Smith's) yielded some good stuff today and a hopeful start to the Coinstar year of 2019. In addition to $1.01 in zinc, copper and clad, got me a flattened penny from the Houston Zoo and a Thailand 1 baht (2551/2008). Amazing thing about the Thai coin is that while it's the first foreign coin I've found in 2019, it's also a new country for my 2016-2019 list. Had I found it yesterday it would have brought my country total to 17 for 2018 and tied the record for most countries in one year. Instead it's the first of hopefully many more to come this year.

I love Coinstar!

I meant to say that I found a 1947-P Roosy dime at a CS machine at a grocery store about a week ago.

Had to stop and pee at the store, even though I was on my way somewhere else. Was frustrated at first because I was in a hurry, but then I realized there was a reason why I stopped. So small bladders can actually have advantages!
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

Please note that ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- sometimes substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) as well.

And, just like last January when I found two silver dimes about a week apart at Coinstar machines, the same thing happened again. This time I found a 1962-D at a CS machine at the local Walmart. I wonder what this means...

1947 SILVER dime

One shiny, lonely, little dime - looking for a new home! Found in a Coinstar reject bin on the way out of WalMart. :D

I have Coinstar competition! Was at Wal Mart last night and going to check the reject chute. As I was approaching the machine two little girls (probably about 5 and 7) ran from the machine to their mom and told her there was no money. I had to laugh. Good for them!

Feb's findings were both good and bad. Good because of five new countries plus a US silver dime. Bad because of a dry spell in the final week that gave up only three coins out of ten Coinstar stops. Foreign countries are now up to 13 for the year, a fantastic total that bodes well for breaking the record of 17. Included in that group was Estonia, a completely new nation to my collection. Five nations have made an annual appearance from 2016-18 (Canada, China, Germany, Great Britain, Mexico) and only China is left to make it four years straight for all five. The US total has already surpassed March of 2018, so I guess Feb was mostly good.

February totals (2019 totals)

1¢ - .23 (.72)
5¢ - .10 (.35)
10¢ - 1.20 (2.10)
25¢ - .50 (2.00)
Total - 2.03 (5.17)

Included in Feb's total is a 1964-D dime

Austria
2 euro cents (2003)

Bahamas
5 cents (1998)

Canada
1 cent (1966) <--- New oldest foreign for 2019

Estonia
20 euro cents (2011) <--- My 12th Euro nation found in the wild

Italy
1 euro cent (2009)
2 euro cents (2013)

Poland
10 groszy (2009)

2019 Countries (13)
Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Canada, Estonia, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, South Africa, Thailand

I don't regularly post my finds but today I hit a big score that I thought you guys might find interesting. I was dumping $127 in zinc cents at the CoinStar machine inside my credit union and someone that used the machine before me left behind the following:

1 - Argentina 10 centavos (2004)
2 - Canada 5 cents (1973, 1979)
2 - Canada 10 cents (2007, 2010)
1 - Canada 25 cents (1984)
1 - Colombia 200 pesos (2012)
1 - Georgia 10 tetri (1993)
1 - Georgia 50 tetri (1993)
1 - Germany 5 euro cents (2002)
1 - Italy 2 euro cents (2006)
1 - Mexico 50 centavos (2016)
2 - Mexico 1 peso (2004, 2007)
1 - Philippines 1 peso (2011)
1 - Poland 1 zloty (1995)
1 - Thailand 5 baht
1 - U.S. cent copper wheat (1930 :) )
3 - U.S. cents zinc - extremely corroded junk
2 - U.S. nickels
32 - tokens of various types (Car wash, arcade, restroom, etc.)
