I enjoy keeping up with your finds and your progress. It has motivated me to get back out searching which I haven't done in a couple of months. Thanks.

Ok guys. I have never done any metal detecting but it has always interested me. This thread is very inspiring. I'm on a fairly tight budget and looking at good entry level detectors. I have done quite a bit of research and it looks to me like the Tesoro Compadre might just be the one. Just wondering if you guys had any thoughts and if any of you own or have used one. Thanks for any input.

I started with the Garrett Ace250. Runs about $220+/-. It paid for itself really fast and has a small learning curve. But you get what you paid for. I may even buy me another one as a back-up.

I know others swear about the Compadre being the best. You can't go wrong with either.

My most recent adventure had me at a local middle school during spring break. I was finding lots of pennies and just enjoying the outdoors with some exercise. I ended up finding a broken silver chain. So, the next hour or so I hunted hard looking for what had to on that chain. Well I didn't find it. But in the process I hit.....

15 quarters
24 dimes
8 nickels
70 pennies

and the silver chain....it's a small chain...but it's silver #5 for the year.

I will be going back to search for that missing piece of jewelry.....unless some other hunter found it. One of the school's janitor came out to watch me. He said some other feller had been hunting here, too. I have a poacher in my backyard!!!!!

Hit the Dairy Queen next door empty lot again. This warmer weather so far has produced alot of ice cream eaters. The 6 pinic tables are set up and the coins are there for the taking. I spent about an hour and a half hunting a 20ft x 20ft area. It produced 90 coins, 1 arcade token, and BLING!!!! Not a great score but it was a man's wedding band....in SILVER. I was hoping for white gold when I saw it in the black dirt in the plug. Ring #5 this year and my 3rd silver ring this year.

8-quarters
14-dimes
6-nickels
62-pennies
90 coins for $4.32
1-token

1-silver ring. Ring #5 and silver ring #3 on the year! Silver #6 overall!

Went out to a small play lot near my house last evening. Found 3 zinc cents in the sand around the benches where the parents sit to watch their kids. This was my second time out detecting - hope to get more practice soon with this warm weather.

Nice gold Jonas!!!

I went out on Saturday and I found a silver ring but didn't get the chance to weigh it or take pics because my sister in-law was at the house when I got home and she claimed it. LOL

I went back to the park that produced 2 wheats for me last week. The park is old and just about hunted out. But it's full of pull-tabs and bottlecaps. I got a decent signal while bouncing away from all of the pull-tabs. My plan was to dig any good signal 4 inches or deeper. This signal was showing 6 inches and very repeatable. I thought it was a zinc penny. A constant "77" showed on the ATPro's VDI. I dug the c-shaped plug, then stuck the ProPointer in the hole. I pinpointed the target so all I had to do was reach down in the dirt and grab it. I ended up with a small handfull of dirt and the coin. When I saw the coin.....YES...the reverse of my first indian head penny!!!!!! 1893!!!!! I got more excited than when I found my first silver coin 2 years ago.

Other than the IH, I hit a 1939 wheat. I could have dug 10,000 pull-tabs and bottlecaps if I wanted to.

It feels good to break into the 1800's finally!

White's eagle spectrum (I've had this for 20+ years and it is a good machine). I did weight it and it weighs 4 grams and will test it someday LOL.

Beautiful sunny day here in Oregon so I went out again. In fact I was out too long and hurt like the dickens (joint and back issues). Here are today's finds
6 clad quarters
2 nickles
7 clad dimes
16 copper pennies
23 zinc pennies
3 foreign coins (I think they are from Thailand)
1 wheat penny
1 junk ring
1 door peep hole (Like the kind in motel doors)
1 live rifle round 25-35 Winchester

It never ceases to amaze me the stuff that I find.
