RING!!!!!!

OK, got out after the midnight shift to do a little swinging. And, got me ring #1. Looks silver to me out of the ground. I had problems finding any hallmark. So, in the bag with the other goodies! I'll post after I get the rest of the dirt off and try to find that hallmark. Was very silver and looked like it had been in the ground for awhile. Found some pennies, too! Hit 2 new parks on a recon trip. Both were loaded with pennies and some clad. Gotta love google earth to find these little out of the way places that only the locals know about. I will post totals in the morning and I'll try to get a picture on here if I can figure out how to re-size them. I got my scale ready at home to weigh this little sucker!

Get out there and get YOURS!

Went on a long hike in the backwoods today to try and find an old cabin along a creek. Never found the cabin but got lots of exercise :) . GPS says we walked a total of 8 miles. Carried the detector the whole way hoping for some old coins etc. Found the following at what looked like a logging camp site. 15 minutes of detecting netted:

1 -1 (Copper)
1 - 10

2

Also lots and lots of brass shell casings.

About 1.5 miles from pick-up on the way back I find a 20lb piece of iron with some copper wire. I stick it in my backpack and bring it back as my "treasure" for the day. I don't know what it is. Maybe from an earthmover?? There was another bigger piece that weighed 80 to 90 lbs that I left.

With the Ace250....gold rings (some not all) will show up as nickel signals. So, I will have more nickels than last year. I'll have more pull-tabs, more can slaw, and whatever else that shows up as a nickel. I dig all nickel signals now! :D

Went to a yard with lots of potential this afternoon. House was built in 1857 and now is a Bed & Breakfast. It didn't pan out as I hoped though.

2 hours of detecting netted

11 - 1
2 - 10

13 total No old coins! Looks like they brought in a bunch of fill and ruined it for detecting. Oh well.

I did find some old brass/copper fittings etc. for the scrap pile.

The snow is finally gone from my part of NY so maybe I will get out and do some detecting.

I have often wondered if it would be worth it to find where municipalities dump snow and then detect there. I think that I got my answer today.

I was at Walmart and in the back of the parling lot there was a large area of trash and dirt. At first, I did not know what it was then I realized it was where a huge pile of snow had been piled. It was probably 20x40 feet. I looked it over real quick and found a copper. I am not sure if it had been picked over before or not. If it had not already been pucked over, then I would say it isn't worth it to bother with such areas.

Any thought from you guys on this?

Snow piles....or what's left of them.....great hunting spots. Good spot for jewelry and clad! I've found my share doing that.

Most of the snow plowing is done by contractors here, and they are out as soon as the first snow flake hits the ground. The snow plow dumps I've found have been sterile. (I need to get another detector, my old one, whatever it was, got eaten by erupted batteries loooong ago.)

Thanks for the input. I have always suspected that they might be good spots, but have nover taken the chance to investigate.

The sopt that I want to detect the most is where all the high school kids went to party when I was a kid. It has been a hot spot for a long time. I suspect there is a fair amount of coinage and possibly jewelry to be found there.

But alas, I never have/take the time to go out. In the last couple of years, my MD has been used more by my friends to find lost hunting arrows than to find treasure.

I had to go to a business conference in Kauai so I took my Whites underwater PI detector as a carry on for the flight over along with a sand scoop. Got out for maybe a total of 4 hours during the week. Found a bit underwater but most was found on the beach and surf line. Man those coins really start looking like crap if they've been underwater or in the wet beach sand for a while. Best find was a blackberry that must have been lost recently. It actually still worked! Turned it in to the hotel security. I didn't really have the time to track down the owner so I took the easy way out. ;)

Coin count -

25-1 (Got to put most through the tumbler)
3-5
8-10
5-25

41 total

Also found 3 little silver items that were stamped sterling or .925

Toe ring - .053 oz
Ear ring - .070 oz
finger ring - .23802 Oz (includes stone)

I still have to clean these up. .. especially the ring with the stone.

Yes ... I brought those fishing weights back with me. About 1 lb of lead.

Wish I had more time to detect but maybe next time. I rarely get to do beach hunting or detect with pulse induction so it was different and fun except for the endless supply of bottle caps, pull tabs and slaw. :x

We all have a long way to go to give Jonas some friendly competition!

In these hunts, do they know where all of the coins are? Or are the ones not found just left there?
