Was going to post that it is getting so it isn't worth it to sort, but read the post from Locutus.

4 boxes of halves

skunk
1-40%
skunk
1-40%

I almost bought a bag of dimes the other day, but my wife would have killed me. If my dry spell continues for halves, I might just have to try something else.

I'm spending a lot of time sorting COPPER. You always find COPPER when you sort pennies. My SILVER searching has been very bad too.

Locutus, I sent you an IM on RealCent.

I am winding down on my half sorting. In my area, northern Oregon, it really is no longer worth the effort. I will keep doing a couple boxes/bags each week just to see if things change. I am not sure if the dramatic and rapid change is the result of many more people sorting and returning sorted halfs into the cycle, or if perhaps Brinks and Loomis armored services are now pulling the silver.

Pennys and nickles always produce something of interest. In my area, dimes have not been as productive.

Okay so I may have gotten the specifics for each box a little wrong, but there's 66 40%ers. I can no longer verify the box details because I put all the coins together in rolls. But I went through those rolls again, and here are the totals:

1965-6
1966-7
1967-23
1968-18
1969-12
-----------
Total: 66

I've now been asking for pennies too along with the CWR dimes and halves to mitigate the silver skunks. Gotta get something for all the effort.

The latest SILVER stats for May have been posted. Look to the first post of this thread to get the details. Always look to the line just before the Kitco quotes to see the last post that was included in the latest update.

Thanks Country. This is my new outlook on dimes, and why I've been hitting them so hard for the last few months.

I did some math and found out that even if 99.9% of the silver Roosevelt dimes (1946 - 1964) have already been found and/or melted, there would still be 6,615,455 of them left in circulation. If for some reason the amount found and/or melted already was only 95%, then there are still over 330 million silver Roosevelt dimes left in circulation.

My own opinion is that the amount of silver Roosevelt dimes found and/or melted is probably lower than both of my scenarios above, so get after those dimes my friends.

All the loaded dime boxes I've had in the last week or so all came from the same TD bank. Yesterday I came home with the last 2 in their vault.

$250 dime box
1964

$250 dime box
1943 Mercury
1947
1963
1964 x3

Might be back to 1 or 2 silver dimes per box after this, but I can live with that.

Definitely. Unfortunately my credit union said they don't want to order coins for me on a regular basis due to the ordering and transport costs. But perhaps I can "bribe" them by offering to pay those costs, or with Starbucks gift cards. ;) We'll see on Monday when I call the vault teller. It would be nice if I could get them out of the same vault. If I can persuade her, I'll order 18 boxes this time.

Called the credit union this morning and talked to the manager. They're refusing to order any more coinage for me or tell me where they got the last batch. Mighty disappointing that I can't continue to buy coins from what turned out to be an excellent source of silver.

Locutus, do they have another branch? Even if you have to drive 70 miles to get to it, they probably draw from the same dusty vault. I don't think you will find a better source. Things have really been dry in my part of the NorthWest.

You might also have friends order a box or 2 from them.

I am sure you have thought of all the angles. As Bill C would say, I feel your frustration.

In any event, best of luck, and happy you got such a nice score.

What I like about the dimes too is that you get 50 in a roll which increases the odds of finding something per roll searched. I haven't kept exact track but I'm getting about one in every $250 of customer wrapped rolls.

Thanks, Rainsonme. Yes, it's frustrating, especially that they won't tell me exactly where the coins came from, "for security reasons."
