Quite happy with the way this year ended, and with this year in general. February was a memorably monster month. A few new records were established (US tally, wheat penny total and silver) including my apartment complex parking lot finds which, despite the occasional odd look from nosy neighbors or bored security personnel, I managed to score $4.68, well past my penny-a-day goal. COVID was thankfully a non-issue most of the year. Gotta think that I probably would've found close to this much last year if lockdowns weren't a thing. Nevertheless, it's onward to 2022! Best of luck to everyone in whatever hunting pursuits you undertake.

The first Coinstar run of 2022 produced 66 cents, beating last year's 47 cents by 29%.

Does that mean I'll beat 2021's grand total of $103.23 by the same amount?

Either way, $133.16 is the target.

Great stats!!

So, I have to ask- why do you guys think people leave all of this money behind at the Coinstars? I've concluded it's one of the following:

1. people don't realize there IS a reject bin when doing their coin count, as it's not something they do frequently
2. the funds being counted are stolen, and the person is just looking to get whatever they can out of it with a quick cash-in

I've already had finds for 2022, but they were not from Coinstar.

1. Yes. Or perhaps they do (the screen reminds them to check the slot) but they simply don't care to retrieve a few rejects. A lot of people have a pretty low opinion of coinage in general. A large full jar has value to them, but a half dozen strays? Bah! Or they planned to collect it but they're so focused on analyzing the receipt, and where to cash it in, that they walk away and honestly forget.
2. Far less common IMO, unless it's kids cashing in their parents' coin jars without their knowledge.

I've already had finds for 2022, but they were not from Coinstar.

Nice!

I found my first batch of stuck-together coins yesterday. What a mess! Went thru a bunch of alcohol wipes to get them ready for the bank. Here's some of the aftermath. What was that...ink??

A less-than-stellar start to 2022 compared to previous years. I think expectations of surpassing last year's record are probably unrealistic if I keep up the somewhat moderate pace I've been on. At the very least I'll need a few bonkers months to even hope to come close. Five countries is a good start to foreigns, and a 1940-S nickel is the oldest US so far. Apartment complex parking lot finds began the year nicely with 40 cents.

What Feb lacked in the US total it more than made up for in silver and foreigns. Not only did I find two more new countries for my all time list, I snagged a colorized Canadian quarter (a first) plus the corker of the month...a new oldest ever find! During one trip I had the luck of finding several coins abandoned on the ledge of two separate machines. In one of those batches was a 1907 Philippines (US Admin) 20 centavos! I couldn't believe it. It now sets the benchmark for oldest US, foreign and silver all in one. And silver wasn't done for the month, with two 1964 quarters showing up. Even my apartment complex parking lot scores are picking up at 88 cents for the year. Feb may be the shortest month but it has a habit of producing memorable Coinstar adventures!

February totals (2022 totals)

1¢ - .28 (.87)
5¢ - .25 (.70)
10¢ - .80 (2.30)
25¢ - 1.00 (2.50)
Total - 2.33 (6.37)

Included in Feb total - 1939-S wheatie, 1964 & 1964-D quarters

25 cents (2009, Women's Hockey, colorized)

Israel
1 new sheqel (2007)

Holed tin ancient replica
CTX 302 / No Cash Value
