Post your nickel sorting/hoarding activity here. Canadians are generally looking for pure Ni nickels (1981 and older, some exceptions) and Americans are generally looking for silver war nickels and those elusive pure Ni Canadians.

Hello all,

I am posting this, in order to catch up and draw a line in the sand against which I will keep this sorting of mine updated. So far, after 16 months (and 132,000 nickels) on the forum and sorting, this is what I am up to in terms of numbers:

Overall 12.3% nickel, but unfortunately dropping. Initially I was getting 20+% but the patch has dried-up.

1922-1936 2 (1933-1934)
1937 2
1938 1
1939 6
1940 5
1941 5
1942 2
1943 0
1944 0
1945 2
1946 2
1947 7 (4 maples, 3 straight)
1948 2
1949 2
1950 11

Total 49

1970 6

I also found 1 dateless buffalo and 1 war nick. :D

Cheers,

I search the nickel boxes for just the 99.9% nickels. This week's box was slightly below our average at 186 99.9% nickels, for 9.3%. I also found 5 12-sided 1962 nickels and an American 1940. Still waiting for my first war nickel :D

If any wants to see a video of the coins from this box, I posted one at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIv6-Zj_tR4

Congratulations on the milestone mtal! You are getting some nice yields.

Just finished my box for the week. Ended up with 172 99.9% nickels, a 1942 King George VI, a 12-sided 1960, and two 12-sided 1962s. The best find of the weekend was a 2009P American nickel...always happy to find one of those. 8-)

Nickel box produced 206 99.9% nickels (10.3%). Also found 18 pre-1963 Canadian nickels, including King George VI nickels from 1940 and 1941, and 1 1939 American nickel. However, the best finds of the box were 8 King George V nickels from 1922, 1924x2, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1932, and 1935! These were my first ever King George V nickels. :D

Picked up a box of nickels yesterday. Found 230 99.9% nickels, which is the highest I have found in a long time and might me the most ever. Also grabbed a 1940 and a 1941 King George VI nickels, four 12-sided nickels, a 1945 Victory Nickel, and 6 dimes. As always, if you would like to see a video of these results, you can find one here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VYYyAzfKKHA

Great work mtal. Good luck in your future finds!
