Hello Fellow Copper Penny Handsorters:

In June 2016, please post your finds right here.

For those of us who handsort our COPPER, this is the place to report your COPPER treasure. I'll be working up some statistics as the reports flow.

Please report the face value of the pennies searched and the total number of US COPPERs found. Also, list the total number of Wheats, COPPER Canadians, and any wonderful Indian Heads you find. If you find foreign coins in your search for COPPERs, list them too. List the percentage of COPPERs found: the percentage I use is the number of coppers (non-Wheats, non-Canadians) found in the face value of pennies searched. Personally, I breakdown my US COPPERs into 4 categories: Wheats, Clean COPPERS (1959-1981), Ugly Abes (1959-1981), and 1982s (the Ugly 1982s I send them back into the wild); I roll mine up separately and put them into separate $25 boxes for storage.

I'll try to post some graphs of our COPPER finds as 2016 proceeds along by adding data to this initial post. I'll see if I can post some interesting insights into the data here in this initial post for 2016 too. Even though this is a national tabulation of all our finds, I think its fun to know what finds are being made and at what frequentcy.

It might be interesting to see how many Indian Heads, Wheats, and COPPER pennies are found . I'll try to keep track of all of these.

That's a great bag. I don't even get half that number of keepers out of $50. Keep sorting and keep posting your results. There aren't nearly the number of hand sorters posting here as there were when I got started several years ago. Sometimes I wonder if the dismal percentages I'm getting are about the same for most other parts of the county hence the drop off in people sorting. But seeing someone getting close to 30% makes me feel more optimistic.

It seems like this has been the typical percentage in this area for the last 5 years or so. I am in Minnesota, north of the Twin Cities metro area. I always get Canadian cents and sometimes some old ones. I have always kept records of my sorting but have never bothered to post my results. I enjoy seeing what others are finding so I thought I would share my results. I still have about 9 bags in the basement from the end of 2014 that I just have a hard time finding the time to sort. I think I will pick up a new bag tonight just to see if the percentages have changed any in the last year and a half.
Maybe I will find my first 2016 coin in the new bag!
